Looking to get a bike to stay in shape. Hoping to maybe do a few sprint triathlons eventually. I've wanted a road bike for a while, but I've been hit by a car before and i dint have the nerve to share the road. I've got a lot of bike paths and trails available to me. Never plan to do serious off-road cycling, so i think these bikes may be a better option for me than a mountain bike. But I've never known of anyone who ever had one.

I've got one. Have had it a few months. Good all around bike. I ride the levee, LSU lakes and some impoved dirt trails and concrete bike paths.
I had a mountian bike for years and this bike does everything I want to do as a casual rider. I'll use it in the MS 150 ride from Houston to Austin in a few months.
It's a trek. Can't remember the model, but the one with the extra set of brake grips, carbon fork and disc brakes.
Edit : i think it's the cross rip elite

Ive also got a cross rip. I have the LTD version. it is marketed as an entry level cyclocross/ all-everything commuter.
I love the bike and use it for shared paths/ light dirt trails. you wont have the lightest and fastest bike in the race but it is a good option. I think the specialized tricross is an alternative

Are those those gay looking 3 wheel tricycle type things that I see around? Are you going to put a flag on the back? Do you wear a helmet and tight pants too?
