Probably panicked, was just trying to get away. I worked at that McDonald's on the same corner during college. Lived behind baptist off west street on Alexander. Know that area extremely well. That's not a crime filled area. At that time of night, Mcdonalds had just closed and it's usually staffed by a JPD officer on detail as it gets a lot of foot traffic from the halfway house on west. That area isn't touching the Queens or Virden Dition areas. Man this is sad.

She was shot and died shortly after.

That corner is literally the little pizza place and the Exxon or chevron gas station/Mcdonalds/Walgreens/Parking lot for baptist hospital

There is enough crime in that area for it to be a problem.

The crime in that area is west of west street. The block right behind baptist is college students and that old head Que dawg house. Things don't start getting sketchy till west of that dollar general, really over that bridge towards E&L BBQ

What a senseless act of violence by a thug POS. I feel sorry for her family and now this young girl will not get to live a full life because of....well who knows why, many motives could have been at play.

people say this all the time but it's really not true. cars are broken into in belhaven, a woman was murdered in belhaven while taking her trash to the curb, a woman was raped and murdered while jogging off fortification, home break-ins in belhaven. Earlier this year, a woman was carjacked in broad daylight in the parking garage of Baptist Hospital.
Everyone loves to think there is some imaginary magic line dangerous thugs won't cross. It's just not true.

This is true. Larger cities can have buffer zones where things gradually deteriorate, but Jackson is small enough you don't have that luxury. It's obvious from the crime maps on the JPD website, although it looks nothing has been posted since the new mayor took office.

frick Jackson, it's leaders, and it's thugs.

JPD is directly posting the crime stats to Twitter now.

I know this girls brother fairly well, They are a good family. I'm betting this is gang initiation related.

I can't imagine how his family feels right now. She was a beautiful girl.

Did not know that. Thanks for the heads up.

I have a friend that is apparently really close to the girl's older brother and his wife/kids. Says the same thing - good family.
This is completely tragic.

Chelsie was my best friend's youngest sister...I had known her since she was 9 years old...such a sweet hard working young woman she had turned into and taken way too soon...such a senseless act of violence...please pray for my dear friend's family and pray that this world we live in nowadays gets better
Posted on 8/18/17 at 12:30 pm to kwf9
The world will continue to get worse as long as we continue to focus on problems that arent the real problems.

just got into work and got the download from some people who live in the area.
Is that really how you've been hearing that all of your life?

Millsaps and Belhaven are both good schools. I know some people who work in administration at Millsaps. They are struggling in recruiting students and having to deal with lots of questions from parents about safety in Jackson. It's killing them. They now have less than 800 undergraduate students on campus.
