Some of their campaign is crap.. I never wear a seat belt and I drive past a cop every time I'm on the road yet I've never been pulled over for not wearing it. I don't have to deal with LA's unconstitutional, Communist check points though..

So you're doing it out of spite it sounds. I always wear my seatbelt, but the govt should not be able to fine you for not wearing it.

Imagine how many more government roads they could build/repair if they would legalize and tax marijuana, sports betting and gambling, and quit incarcerating non-violent individuals. The seatbelt/DUI checkpoints wouldnt hold much water after that.

I have no problem making the smart choice on this, but as someone else pointed out, why the hell are motorcycle cops writing these tickets?

It's just their annual money-making scheme. It gives them federal grant money, it gives them an excuse for check points all over the state, and it gives them license to pull people over for $25 bucks.

Oh, and it's the annual "Let's fill the LSP coffers" with easy money campaign instead of doing actual police work.

It's ridiculous if they are still able to hand out a significant amount of tickets for violating laws that have been in place that long.

It's not so much the seatbelt violations as it is them having free license to have checkpoints all over the state (with federal money) for them.

Has anyone ever told you how irrational this fear is?

how many "burned to death in a wreck" stories have you heard versus "thrown through a windshield and died" stories?

Just playing the odds, I wear a seatbelt.

So, because each individual taxpayer can't build a whole road, no taxpayer has the right to bitch?

And your narrow minded arse believes your tax dollars pay for everything.

" My tax dollars pay your salary... My tax dollars paid for these roads... My tax dollars pay for their welfare"

Your tax dollars are stretched so thin that it becomes a shitty argument

Couple of feet, but that shite's mine and I'll do with it as I please.

I figure I'm also responsible for the funding of at least one stop sign, so I just blow right through those too.

I like to focus on the positive things my tax dollars pay for, like prostitutes for secret service agents.

Everybody has a right to bitch.

Im just saying that if you are going to drive on a road built by the govt then you have do abide by their rules. Id much rather live in a world where im completely self sufficient and can be as free as a bird because nobody provided any service or amenities for me. Unfortunately that's not the world we live in.

Also, driving is not a right, its a privilege. Nobody is afforded the right to drive or posses a license, car, and gas.

Even if it's a millionth of a penny that can account for your salary, then I pay your salary.

If the taxpayers don't pay your salary, then exactly who do you work for?

But, people should have the right to not wear a seatbelt. It doesn't put other drivers at risk.

Our insurance overlords protected their bottom line under the guise of safety. No one seemed to recognize it or care. No one was trying to save lives. They were trying to appease the insurance companies.

I will say that if we didn't have the seatbelt law, the premiums in the state, which are already amongst the highest in the nation, would be even more astronomical.

How does the state police know what the seatbelt compliance rate is, btw?

If anyone doesn't think this is a money-making scheme, I'd really like to know.
