Public university salaries are public record. Many are "assistant professors" or "instructors" who make way less than 100k.

No, his problem is he's a narcissist that thinks he's above everything that has been offered to him so far. Could he really not find an unpaid internship and work his way up from there into the company? Instead of going that route, he's gone 2 years without a job, and now he's probably fricked for life. You just don't have a 2 year gap in your resume and get away with it. A year gap where you're off backpacking in Europe, ok, but living in your parents home doing nothing but interviewing, there is something clearly wrong with you. I would never hire a person who had a 2 year gap on their resume unless they were hospitalized or were bettering themselves like learning a foreign language. Sitting on your arse and applying everyday on Indeed is not effective means of using your time wisely.

He has other problems, but the system is everyone's problem.

I had a job straight out of college from an internship. Shitty thing was the piece of paper wasn't worth a damn. I was making more before I graduated cutting grass

You just have to accept the fact that if you major in history or English or art history, that it is highly unlikely that you will find a job in those fields.

My degree isn't that bad it's definitely gotten my foot in for interviews where as without a degree I would have been shut out.
I wish I had went a different route but then again I didn't get a shitty degree in general studies or some liberal arts BS.

Bunch of judgmental jerks on this thread.
Some people make stupid decisions as 19 year olds when they don't know what they want to do with their life and have no advice, so they as a result do not choose the best degree path.
Good for you if you did at that age.
Its just another reason I think most males should not even attend college until they're 22 and have worked and matured a few years in order to help them make better grades in a better degree path.

Ditto. Liberal arts BA/MA holder right here who's gainfully employed in business.
I've said it before in the litany of threads on the subject, but degree discipline only gets you so far. What gets and keeps you on a good career trajectory are personality, work ethic, adaptability and writing skills.
You have a business admin degree? Fantastic, now string together a cogent paragraph to a client about the state of his or her account without sounding like someone who barely made it out of high school. My boss has said before that she'll automatically end an applicant's candidacy if he or she turns in a resume and/or cover letter littered with spelling or grammatical errors. If I'm hiring someone for a client-facing position which tasks them with writing briefs and creating presentations, an English degree is hardly a handicap.

What's dumber is that the author (provided the letter is even real, which I doubt) is essentially blaming his college of choice for their cost structure to which he voluntarily agreed to submit.
That's like joining the military and then freaking out when they're about to deploy you overseas. Oh you mean I have to pay these education costs back? NO ONE TOLD ME THIS.

Exactly. Engineering and medical degrees are great. They're technical degrees and as such, the degrees and certs are all that matter. See most engineers who are about as personable and creative as a rock. Nothing wrong with a liberal arts degree but you have to be able to sell yourself. If you can do that, you can and will land a great career. If you get a non technical degree hoping IT will get you a job you're in for a rough life.
