I'm trying to sell a big bathroom vanity on Craigslist. I was offered $350 so I said sure, we want something different in there anyway.

Phone # the lady is texting from is a local area code. She asked who to make the cashiers check to because she wanted to have a receipt because it's going in her office. I said cash only. She responded and said she banks at x bank (near my house) and we could meet there, have the bank issue the check, and I could turn around and cash it right then before letting them take the piece.

Other than me being raped and killed at my house when they come to get it, what else could go wrong?

First thing you see on CL is to never accept cashiers checks so I'm weary.

I think you're good. From her side she doesn't want to show up at a stranger's house with $350 cash.

This seems like a good compromise.

Why are you tired? Don't be weary, get some rest.

Make her get cash out then. Write up a receipt on a sheet of paper.

Stick with your Cash Only demand...If she refuses to go cash only, find someone else

Her thing wasn't bringing the cash, it was having a receipt. The money is from her LLC..

I think you're safe. You're meeting in a public place where you'll get cash (eventually). I can understand this lady's desire to not bring cash to your house, too.

I've tried to sell things on Craigslist before, but ran into this scam:

Guy expresses interest, but doesn't ask to see what we're selling (bedroom suite). He doesn't haggle on the price at all (big red flag!), and offers to pay via PayPal (another red flag!). He then says he will arrange for movers to come pick up the furniture because he doesn't actually live in Tulsa (another red flag!) even though it was posted in the Tulsa craigslist section. Too many red flags, so we bailed.

hooker from craigslist won't accept a cashiers check, and I don't want to get robbed out of $350, so how do I proceed?

If you are meeting at her bank just have write you a check. You cash the check right then. The cancelled check is her receipt.

Tell her to buy furniture from a real store if she wants a damn receipt. Cash only or you should walk away from the deal.

You might have to actually witness her request and receive the cashier's check from the teller made out to you. She could easily request a cashier's check for the $350 made out to someone else, anyone else and already have a fake cashier's check ready to give to you.

If you can turn around and cash it in at the bank, I don't see a problem... I see how you're weary that if she wants to go to the bank and spend $ on a cashier's check, why not just withdraw the money in cash?

I think you're good though.

Well she asked for my name. If it's fake and made out to anyone else, I will see, no? The whole purpose of us meeting at the bank is for her to get whatever kind of check she needs issued and for me to literally cash it at the same bank immediately.
