Always make a police report

Learning the hard way right now about not making a police report after an accident. Last week my car was backed into and caused heavy damage to my door. I was not in the vehicle as it was parked and unoccupied. Witnesses told me the story and that the man lived in the house across the street. I went to his house and discussed what happened. He apologized and gave me all of his info. He pleaded with me to not contact the insurance company as he would pay for the damages. Like a complete fool I don't call the police and take the mans word. After a week of ducked calls he now claims I'm at fault and "deals off." I'm still going to make a claim with his insurance but I'm sure there's not much to be done without the report. Lesson learned.

Why does he claim that you are at fault?
There are witnesses, time to go to work.

You could have called and made a police report after he left and made it a hit and run.

You have witnesses right?

Time to go to a hardware store, buy a 3-4 ft piece of garden hose. Go back to his house, ask him outside to speak of the situation. If at this point he doesn't remember the accident, you beat him rigorously with said hose until he starts to remember. Problem solved?

There are at least 5 people who saw it happen. He claims he contacted the police and they informed him I was parked illegally. So I immediately called his bluff and contacted them myself. The police never heard from the guy and his accusation against me was bogus but they said there's nothing I can do because I waited too long.

Were you parked illegally? I am trying to gather ALL the pertinent facts. It appears the OP may have been lacking.

There was nothing illegal about how I was parked. I was on the opposite side of the street legally parked. The police informed me of this. The guy apparently floored it out of his driveway. He must not have looked behind him at all is what I'm gathering from witnesses.

Ok, ok. Calm down. Just trying to get a full picture.
Go back to him and tell him you have witnesses and are going to sue. You tried to be nice, but you will be taking this as far as you can. I hope you weren't parked right across from his driveway though. While not illegal, it is rude.
If he is older, tell him you are disappointed in his generation.

What were you doing at the house where you parked. Are you friends with his neighbor?

I am not a cop, so I will never make a police report.

A man should never key another man's car, so get your ole lady to do it for you

Was it on a public road or a driveway? I don't think the cops write up a report on private land, but I could be wrong. I had a guy back into me in a parking lot. We exchanged info and I called my insurance just to let them know. It was a little under $1,000, so the guy paid for it himself.

I was legally parked on a residential street infront of a friends house.

Insurance claims 101, it does not matter if you are parked illegally. He has the greater duty while backing

The Justice system has failed you, time to take it to the streets.

Lucas, you are typically a beacon of truth and a clear thinker here. Is this Obama's fault or Trump's fault?
