Considering investing in some new dress shoes for work. The Strand Cap Toe's look really nice but cost $400. Do any OTers own any Allen Edmonds, and what's their verdict? Are they worth the price?

Quality clothiers don't end in consonants. Words of wisdom.
Gucci
Salvatore Ferragamo
Magnani

Don't be a chump.

Yeah, I've had a pair of captoes for something like 7 years. I don't wear them every day, but often enough to be impressed by how well they've held up. Just polish every now and then to protect the leather.

Aren't these what you are looking for on sale for $245?

I just ordered $800 of shite from them for their anniversary sale. Strands aren't for sale, but they're awesome. Walnut ftw

Did you just pick the first few Italian designers that came to mind?

Ferragamo sure...but Magnanni? Come one man....have some class.

If you're cost-conscious just call the Shoe Bank and get Allen Edmonds seconds for 100 bucks off or so

Walnut Strands are probably a top 5 AE shoe, so they likely have tons of sizes. I've had 2-3 pairs of seconds in addition to a bunch of regular AEs, and I've never spotted the difference.

Of the lasts that are on sale at AE...the Fifth Ave and the Warwick monk are great shoes.

I'll be purchasing a new pair of dark chili Fifth Aves myself.

They're only 3-4 hundred. It's a pair of shoes you'll have forever, not a house.

With any hard sole avoid getting moisture on them. The soles on AEs will get holes quick. It wouldn't be so bad but they ask $150 to recraft. It's a nice show but be wary that they require upkeep to get the most out of them.

Indeed....I have a pair of Strands that I wear probably 2-3 days a week on average for the last 5 years and the soles on these things show no sign of giving up.
