comes down to understanding how much of a profit/margin restaurants are making off me, is what gets to me the most.

Ummm.....they are going bankrupt so I'd venture to say that profit margin you are complaining about isn't profit but loss.

Most people (including many that open a restaurant) have no clue what it takes to actually break even much less turn an actual profit. You have to be passionate and married to it or just retarded.

Rent, payroll, payroll taxes, general liability, food cost, linen cost, equipment cost, that refrigeration repair cost when your freezer goes out after you just stocked it with shrimp, permits, fees, utilities, fees on permits, advertising, janitorial, grease trap pick up and cleaning, garbage disposal, a transient not necessarily dependable workforce, working when everyone else is off.

This is why the burger is ten bucks. The fact that possibly somewhere ground beef is down 8% and eggs are fifty cents cheaper than last year has been overwhelmed by the above as well as dealing with all of the government regulations from local to state to federal AND a large increase in minimum wage which for the most part doesn't come into play around Baton Rouge because the competition for workers due to labor shortage has made that impact moot.

2 cheeseburgers, 2 fries, 2 ice teas $33.00 before tip - Brewbachers Govt. Street last Friday. It was a good burger and I have no complaints. Can I cook one cheaper and at least as good at home? Sure. Did I want to? No.

It is a personal choice how we all decide to spend our money and certainly your prerogative to not eat out but to wholesale say they are making a bunch of money off of you is ignorant of the industry and basic economics. I'd be willing to bet your yearly salary is much more than most local restaurant owners in your town and you probably work one third the amount of hours they do and again more than likely don't have everything you own tied up as collateral on an investment that has a much larger percentage to fail rather than succeed.

Enjoy your home cooked meal.

Most restaurants suck, FACT. I'm not trying to be a dick. But be honest with yourself and think about the ratio of places that are worth your money vs all the other places.

To hell with these Seattle restaurants. I've voluntarily been to one since i moved here. $20 for a pizza the size of a frisbee. No thanks. We go out to places for work lunches and i dont have to pay. But its ridiculous how overpriced it is. Went to some Mexican place last week and my 2 enchiladas with rice and beans was $19. I can make a whole casserole dish of enchiladas at home for less than that

Too many restaurants are overpriced for what you get. I'm in Texas on vacation right now. Went to Waffle House yesterday and got a lot of food for $9. They have it right.

you know i was in San Diego last weekend and man their prices blew my mind

the girl took me to this pretty nice wine bar restaurant thing and i got a decently-sized NY strip, salad, and a frick load of fries (didn't really partake) for like $25. blew my mind

i just stock up when good steak cuts go on sale for $4.99 / lb or like ground beef goes to around $2/lb

I was referring to the Darden corporation fwiw. I'm sure if you look at their income statement and P and L ledger from last year your comment about understanding basic Econmics was ignorant, regarding the largest restaurant chain in the US. Restaurants aren't going bankrupt show some substantiated facts before you draw your own conclusions. Comments made on the OP were referenced to higher costs for the consumer. It's your prerogative indeed, to how you see fit to spend your money and time. Everyone has an opinion on the matter.

I don't eat out as much as I used to because most restaurants don't list nutrition facts about their dishes. It's almost impossible to count macros when you don't even know what's in a dish.

Ground pork for the win. It is cheap and you can do a lot with it.

You can also buy a vacuum sealer in order to take advantage of good deals. Buy a family back of deeply discounted steaks and freeze them individually.

This stems from the failures of GWB. Thank God President Obama has kept it only a minimal bad situation.

Sidenote: I find quality has gone down at many fast/fast casual/casual places. Seems like about 50% of the time I order for pick up they get my order wrong.

Do you stand in line for a $8 cup of Starbucks coffee? You guys single handedly ruined America with that overpriced SJW crap so what do you expect?

Another redneck butthurt and spreading this stupid bullshite. I go to starbucks once a week and my cup of coffee is $1.82. It's way better than the shitty $1.25 gas station coffee that the bubbas prefer and probably better than whatever shite you brew at home.

Tell is the truth. Are you too stupid to figure out what a good restaurant is and where to find it or is it just that you live in a shitty place with nothing but shitty chains?

So what happened to all that hope and change under Obama then? It's about time to realize you can no longer blame the "past administration" anymore and admit Obama is to blame for a lot if not all of the current job market.

Most restaurants are pretty solid or they wouldn't be in business. If you go to shitty restaurants, then it is more of a reflection on yourself.

There is limitless information available on the internet about restaurants. Go to Yelp and read a couple reviews.

I rarely eat out for a number of reasons. It can be expensive; it's almost always unhealthy; and I can cook better tasting meals at home while saving a lot of money.

If I do eat out it's almost exclusively at little family owned restaurants.

The ever changing/expanding American diet and expectations are also to blame IMO.

I live most of the year on the coast of southern California and we tend to eat out a lot there even though the prices are fairly high. So many good restaurant choices.

When I am at my place in SE OK, I hardly ever eat out because the choices are weak.

If I go out to eat, I want to go to a nice restaurant and eat good food that I normally don't cook at home.

I'm saying that you missed the point. If most restaurants did not suck, then you wouldn't need to know how to find the good ones. But most restaurants do suck. That's just a fact.

If it's a chain restaurant with antiques and retro signs on the walls, plus if the wait staff is dressed like they're going to a Jimmy Buffet concert, stay the frick away...

And again, you are either a nimrod or live in a shitty area.
There are a few hundred good to great restaurants within 10 miles of my house.
