The Confederate Battle Flag may have cost two men their jobs. They claim they were fired from Turner Industries this week for refusing to remove the flag from their vehicles.
quote:

Phillip Sims told the TV station he doesn’t normally drive to work with the flag on his truck, but he was running late on Monday, and didn’t take the time to remove it. That’s when a a supervisor at the Decatur, Ala., plant told him to remove the flag or be fired. He said he refused to remove it, on principle, and was fired.
quote:

There are claims Turner Industries fired another employee on Tuesday for the same reason. That employee asked not to be identified.

Sims says all this goes beyond the flag, all the way to his First Amendment right of free speech. “It’s a statement of our heritage and it’s just my right to have it and I don’t think that I should just give it up because somebody told me I had to,” says Sims.

I don't think this is grounds for firing someone, unless he was driving a company vehicle with the flag on it.

You're a victim for opposing the flag, you're a victim for supporting the flag. Everybody gets to be a victim, yay!!!

I don't agree with firing him over it, but congrats on losing your job over something so dumb, you showed them.

Just spitballing here. Would the company be off the hook if another employee complained that the flag offended them?

Thats the problem with these idiots...They don't understand that no one is trying to take it away from them.

As an employee of a company....you're a representative of that company.

The company isn't on the hook to begin with. The company didn't want that flag flying in their parking lot and gave him the ultimatum. His choice of not taking the flag down was basically his resignation.

You don't feel Turner should be able to control what is displayed on Turner property?

Then why not just take the flags down while you are at work?

More important things right...

The guy absolutely has the right to freedom of speech, but that does not mean there aren't repercussions.

What he does not understand is that by flying that flag on Turner's property, he is actually speaking for the company without their consent. He is on private property which does not belong to him.

If the company fired him for flying the flag at his home...that would be a different issue.
