Alabama places 'failing' label on majority black schools only

The larger meaning, the one that defies any safe bureaucratic commentary, is that Alabama continues to fail to educate black students who are schooled in relative isolation. Look at the numbers. There are just under 37,000 children in failing schools in Alabama. More than 34,000 of those children are African American.
These 76 "failing" schools are the modern face of a legacy of segregation followed by desegregation followed by white flight followed by resegregation

Education is complicated. There needs to be transparency. Without public accountability there will be no change.
African American children today account for just one third of the 731,000 students in public schools across the state. Yet last week they accounted for 92 percent of the students in failing schools.
But now that lawmakers have mandated this annual expose of racial isolation and inequities within the public system, what are they going to do about it?
Lots of blame on the state, politicians, geography and white people but not on the ones who are failing. Thoughts? What will happen to these kids? How does this trend stop or will it?

it's a social cycle and it's not en vogue to discuss it as such (i think because the solutions would be unpleasant)

The system is working just as it was designed to.

How much money do these school districts spend per student in comparison to the white ones

Only 2 real choices here- waste more money trying to improve these schools, or send the bad apples to other schools to ruin them too.

Well...is this causation or correlation?
Are they labeled failing because they're black?
Are they labeled failing because they're failing?
Are they failing because they're black?
Are they black because they're failing?
Is the poor performance of black schools contrived or the actual results of those schools?
Is the poor performance due to a purposeful racist policy to not educate black children?
Do black children just not want to learn?
Are administrators and teachers to blame?
This article seems to assume the only possible issue at play must be racism.

yea,why is it anyone's fault besides the families that send these kids to school? That 'white flight' ship sailed in the 1970's. Some of the Birmingham city schools have test scores that are shockingly low.
But as long as the wind is behind the back of the "its all because of racism" nothing will change.

Not sure what the state can do, honestly. The black community refuses to take academics seriously. Great public schools require high taxes, which the black community won't pay.

Montgomery has gone private schools for those who can afford it and I'd bet in the next 5-10 years Huntsville will be the same way

No matter how much money you flush down the shitter to fix it, this particular problem will never be fixed, no matter where you look. Everyone knows exactly the reason why, but no one is willing to take action on it.

This sentence gave me a headache.

So the system was designed for black kids going to black schools to fail?
So you are saying the students' families have zero responsibility in taking interest in their children's education?

These schools need a young white Yale educated woman to teach them the works of Shakespeare via rap metaphors
