That's BS. I'm a Yankee born and raised (Pittsburgh) and not one single time did I ever hear anyone say anything negative or disparaging about the South. Then I moved down here and told people where I was from, and it was 'Yankee this' and 'Yankee that'. To me it seems like the southerners are the ones with the problem. Heck, I didn't even know what a Yankee was until I moved down here.

I completely believe this...I have been to pennsylvania a few different times and the folks there were every bit as cordial as people from the south...however, that is certainly not the case with a good number of the northern states...

i have had a very different experience, but that's good to know. also, i've generally tried to limit my redneck exposure while living in the south, so i only hear good-natured ribbing about the north while in the south. but the shite i've heard about the south, while living and visiting outside the south has been appalling. and this includes so-called sophisticated people.

I haven't been to the North often but people seemed fine. I did get a weird look when I stopped for gas in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin one time though. I was on my way home from Yellowstone and took the northern route home. I don't know whether the guy staring at me was just a weird creep or that people in that part of the state just weren't used to seeing an Alabama (or Deep South state for that matter) license plate in Wisconsin. I doubt the Upper Midwest states get very many visitors from the South traveling by car so it may have been a novelty. Living near the beach here in Mobie it's obviously not unusual to see the reverse. There are thousands of cars from all over the Midwestern states traveling through here every weekend of the Spring and Summer on their way to Gulf Shores, Destin, and PCB.

Good for you.

I always make it a point to judge people I meet on their good natured ribbing. Helps me eliminate the rapists and murderers.

My wife's family is from central PA. My experience is that the best way to describe PA is Pittsburgh and Philadelphia with Alabama in the middle. That being said I still get weird looks up there every once in awhile. As well as get comments from her family when they believe certain misconceptions.

I've lived in 8 states, and by far the worst, in regards to making fun of the south, was Ohio. Which is strange, considering the most racist state in America for over 25 years was Miamisburg, OH. And that they have more rednecks than any southern state I have lived in(Va, AL, SC,and TN).

I truly believe your experience.

I spent 15 years working in Northern VA,

Most people were from New England and the mid-west.

Most of these folks looked down on Southerners.

Their idea was people who talked slow with a "funny" accent were dumb.
I personally witnessed this day after day.
