I've never waited more than 15 minutes at Baton Rouge Clinic whether for our normal pediatrician or 3 or 4 others that we've seen on short notice when our's was out.

Waited there for over an hour for my son's 1week checkup after he was born

So because you think you know more than medical professionals and resorted to using an ER as a doctor's office, we are supposed to congratulate you

Eat a dick. We went to our local children's clinic 3 days in a row and they kept telling is he was fine. A 26k white cell count for a 6 month old isn't fine. I have great insurance. They are not losing money on me you self righteous prick

Kid likely got sick from being in a doctors office that many times. You sound like a real winner, just stop trying to argue and justify yourself

Asking questions of health care professionals is 100% OK but being "an a-hole" is ridiculous. Basically what I read above is that you are going to piss and moan until they do what you want regardless of what they are telling you. In that case, just disregard their twelve years of medical schooling and treat your kid at home. You apparently know best

I love how what was supposed to be helpful was turned into a bashing of parenting and a lesson in English and grammar from the internet police who jump to conclusions one ones educated level and ability to raise their children based on a late night post from a hospital on a phone with a tiny keyboard. Good job guys.

And for the record it wasn't his fever. It was his heart rate on excess of 200 BPM, his lethargy, refusal to eat for two days, 103.5 fever averaged between both ears with no break regardless of cool baths and motrin/Tylenol rotation.

Glad some of y'all achieved your desired hardon. You've won the internet today.

We all appreciate your advice to take our children to the doctor daily and argue with the unknowing moron doctors.

Just out of curiosity, why do you take your child to the doctor if you know more than them? Are you just hoping they validate your diagnosis or are you looking for some type of prescription you can't get yourself?

Yep.

FWIW, find another pediatrician.

Thanks for the medical advice from a non-medical professional, Dr. Judge.

Fwiw, there's nothing wrong with asking for a second opinion. But directing doctors to do specific tests seems moronic, if you aren't a doctor yourself.

Well they had to admit him. His white cell count is sky high and his fever is pretty severe. They will try to send you home. An infant can't tell you how bad they feel. Its your job to speak up. I'm glad I'm an a-hole and kept pushing them to run tests and blood work. Be vigilant.

so what does this mean?

If you aren't vigilant with the Tylenol/Advil and monitoring them yourself, the fever can get out of hand, but you can control the fever yourself from home.

SO what's wrong with the kid?
You make it out to be like the kid got cancer or something. Was it just a fever virus?

You think you know what they need. And I'm not being a jerk because as a parent I do the same. But there are billions of dollars spent annually on studies. Everyone with a cough and cold doesn't need a rocephin shot. Every kid with an earache or sore throat doesn't need antibiotics. There are guidelines for a reason. Unfortunately medicine is also a business. So you stop giving every kid with a sore throat some amoxicillin and his momma will just find another doctor that will. Too many of those and you're looking for a new job.

Why do so many parents freak out over a fever? Isn't it the body's way to fight infection?

The only times I have ever freaked out and brought my son to the ER was when he had febrile seizures. My son had one at 1 year old and the second (and thankfully last) at 3 years old. The scariest shite you have ever seen is watching your 1 year old seizing.

The er is always full of overreacting parents. This is why the after hours clinics are making bank.

I work in a little town in Franklin Parish. And even though I'm technically "family" medicine, I try to avoid the kids as much as possible. I have 4 at home. I go to work to get away from screaming kids, lol.

Meh, kids are pretty resilient. If something hurts on the outside rub dirt on it and if something hurts on the inside give them a shot of bourbon.

Even if my kid's pediatrician is open I go to walk in clinic, it's a higher copay but saves me 2 hours out of my day

Why are you bringing your sick kids to the dr? Haven't you stated before that is one of your joys of having a stay at home spouse/mom?
