Hey y'all, so I am a recent graduate with a Finance degree from U Florida but have no idea what I really want to do as a career.

I originally thought I wanted to be a financial adviser but the more I talked to people and did my research, I realized that for a 22 year old coming out of school, this wasn't a good profession to purse (high failure rate, hundreds of cold calls a day, mostly all commission based, no rich millionaire uncles to get me a good start).

So now I am kind of back at square one. I want to be a business professional in a position where I can have potential for growth and have a make a comfortable living.

If you were a young 22 year old, what would you purse as a career? I would consider myself pretty intelligent and able to work in any field really.

I am not really passionate about much of anything business related and could see myself in any field from financial services to healthcare to real estate to IT and everything in between.

Do not ever say that to anyone in an interviewing situation.

Go buy "What Color is Your Parachute".

Read the whole damn thing.
Do every stupid exercise in it.
Every one.

Then you will know exactly what you need to do.

Not joking. DO It.

Try to get a job at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, because they have an excellent corporate structure and they give you the tools to be your own boss.

Hospitals, physician groups and Health Plans are always looking for Finance people and the industry is very strong right now.

Look at the elective medical/dental field. Cosmetic surgery and dentistry won't be affected by the healthcare act. Lot's of money there. Help those poor women afford tits and lipo. Help those doctors get their money. It's fast paced, fashion smart, and heavy poon traffic.

While possibly construed as glib or ridiculous by some, this is actually some damned good advice.

Most dental or elective surgery clinics don't really have finance people. They either do their billing in house (office manager) or they hire an outside billing company. So, unless you want to be a clinic manager, it's not really an option.

Now, you could work for a group that employs those types of physicians, but there aren't many small clinics like that who have a need for their own finance department.

Start off in financial analysis to get your feet wet and to gain experience. If you're looking to stay in Fl look at private prison, healthcare, or retail industries. Expect 40-50k.

UF seems to have a decent MSF program, maybe a good idea to use that to reassess.
