Advice for leaving a job

Y'all have any tips on putting in your two weeks notice? I plan on joining the navy or air force in late September or early October but want to put in my notice this Saturday. My job has evolved from being just a job to being plain miserable. Before I go into the service I will be helping my dad with his start up business and getting in shape. Any tips are appreciated.

Sounds like you've already figured out what you want to do. Just go ahead and do it.

At the end of your last day just say I will no longer be coming back, I quit.

Be nice even if you hate them.
Never burn a bridge.
Never burn a bridge.

Wrong.
Be shitty even if you love them.
Bridges are for people who look back.

No need for a 2 weeks notice if you have no interest in a possible return.

If you explain to them that you're leaving to join the armed forces there is literally no way they can give you grief. Not that they should anyway. And as other posters said, just be respectful and don't burn any bridges.

Be honest
Put in my 2 weeks last week
Just said the O&G industry is stressing me out and I got an offer I couldn't refuse to work in a plant
He understood
Good Luck

And be honest with management at your present employer. If they are worth a shite, they'll respect you for it and it could later pay you dividends as they could be a reference. If they aren't worth a shite, you didn't have to invest much to be straight-up with them. Karmic score for you.
Good luck.

If you don't even know the branch yet you better get busy if you plan on leaving by September.

This.
Most federal and state agencies do very extensive background checks. The last place I worked had a fish and wildlife agent come to our office to meet with our boss about a former employee.
If you and your boss don't get along, you can always list another supervisor or other employee as a work reference.

May want to hold off until you are sure you have been accepted.

Know the company policies before leaving. My company pays out up to two weeks of vacation if someone resigns, BUT they only get it if they fulfill their two weeks.

Put it in only when you are ready to leave. Theu may fire you the second you put your notice in
