Do you make them audition or just choose one at random?

Shreveport's DMV is a real shithole. You'll be there all day. Luckily Bossier has one and you can get out of there pretty quick. I live 2 miles from the Shreveport DMV and I will drive anywhere else to avoid it

At the DMV is where I wonder how the US could be ranked in the upper half of anything.

is that like frowned upon these days?
Most certainly. That's why I always use someone else's shoe. I don't want my feet to touch those nasty floors.

who the hells goes into the DMV anymore.
People who don't get their renewals in the mail, that's who.
Over the past 5 years I've had to go to the DMV several times because the idiots there don't mail the renewals. It happens a lot.
I have two vehicles that are due for renewed registrations at the same time. In this instance, both were due by 07/15.
Got one renewal in the mail, the other one never showed up. Go figure.

You can now get your license renewed at some title places. They do charge a convenience fee though (like 18bucks). Still, it took me a whole 5 minutes.

This is why I have lived in Louisiana for 13 years and still have a Texas drivers license. I don't have time for that. I'll take a ticket before I give in and consider it a small fee for not having to deal with that crap for 13 years. Not to mention when I do finally get a Louisiana DL, I can't go to the Express DMV so it is going to be that much worse. I intended to do it this summer but said frick it. Maybe next year.

It's the great equalizer. You can avoid the dregs of society during most aspects of life, but all must commune together at the DMV eventually.
It can be good people watching. Watched a young man exit the Shrevport office cussing and screaming, with fat mama patiently trudging behind him carrying a big purse. Asked the security guy what that was about. The little dumbass got there after the cutoff time where they would not let him start the license exam process.
Then there was the teen princess I saw at Bossier that was rocking a new outfit and made up like she had been to glamour shots, excited as hell about the photo shoot. Her whole family came along, and all were very thrilled, as if little Misty were there to accept an Oscar or something.

I got there 20-30 minutes before they opened and still waited an hour and a half.
Gotta get there an hour or at the latest 45 minutes before they open to not have much of a line.
I went to Chalmette office at 7:15 and was 3rd in line. By the time they opened at 8:00 there were 20-30 in line. I was out 10 minutes after the doors opened.

We just pick whoever looks like the most fun to deal with.
I remember the old days of the DMV in Metairie and the little machine you would get a number from and wait for your number to be called. I did that one time and waited like 6 hours and then quickly learned next time to pick my number OFF THE FLOOR - because people had pulled a number way before me got disgusted and threw the number down and left.
I'd grab a few discarded numbers from the floor, keep the lowest ones and then distribute the other to whoever I made friends with there while waiting. They thought I was so awesome for that, lol!
That trick cut my waiting time from 6 hours to under 2 hours.

I was dreading going to the DMV in Hammond. Last time I was in there for 2 hours.
Went on 7/1 to get my license renewed only to find out it is now an "Express" dmv. 15 mins, including the time to print my new license. And its a 6 year renewal now.

y'all do know there's a "special" DMV for classy good-looking people, right?

When I last had to go in person, of course I remembered it on the last day before my license expired. It was a Friday at 4pm in Jackson, MS, the butthole of the Earth. I was fully prepared for it to be an ordeal, but don't you know there were only 2 people in line? I was in and out in 10 minutes. I thought surely that was just a freak thing. I told my husband about it and he went on a late Friday afternoon and that was his same experience as well. I guess that's one of those times nobody ever thinks to go to the DMV.
