OT car gurus,

The wife wants a new car. We spent half of today at an Acura dealer looking at a few MDXs. Anyone recently purchased one and if so, what are your opinions on the car and how much did you knock off MSRP? Thanks in advance.

Have an RDX that the wife loves. Think we ended up almost ten under msrp, but I can't remember.

I should add that my wife wanted the MDX but it wouldn't fit in the garage so we went with the RDX. Have had 3 MDX in the past and been happy with all of them.

Save your money and get a fully-loaded Honda CR-V unless you really need that third row.

I bought Mrs Pimp a 2015 MDX (new body style) in late 2014. It's a great car. We wanted that third row, and it had much better storage with the third row than the Lexus . We just went online and determined a fair price on the car sites, and went from there. The MDX is a huge seller and you won't get as much leverage as the others. Get the tech package for sure. By the way, it's a great car on a road trip, a great ride, excellent steering and control, and with the wide stance doesn't feel front heavy. It doesn't feel like a performance car or anything, but it fits well in the luxury segment at a lower price point than the main competitors. Would buy again.

Holy crap if you got 10 under MSRP on an RDX you did well! A 3 year old RDX with 23k was on $8k under the MSRP of a new RDX.

We need the 3rd row option. We looked at the RDX, we couldn't make it work for a few more years. 3 kids complicates car buying.

Thanks for the reply...I didn't find the value in the tech package. It added 4-5k to the price and I have a smart phone. What other utility does it provide other than nav?

Man, that's an outstanding deal from what I can tell. Sticker had to be north of $56k. I'm looking at 41k for fairly base. They didn't want to budge too much. I "slept" on it.

Got an '06 with 86k miles. Never an issue. Great car.

Stay away from Walker Acura if you're around nola. They suck bad.

I would suggest doing some research and taking a long test drive.

The new MDX comes with a ZF 9 speed tranny.

Some say it is shite. Some say it just takes getting "used to",

Mdxers.org has several threads.

Wife has the RDX. Leased it as she stays at home with our son and the mileage is low. It's our second Acura and they've given us a great deal every time. It's a good ride and haven't had a single problem the last 5 years we've had an Acura.

Wife bought one new in 2013. She would buy another now if she needed a new vehicle. Never used the third row

Wife has a 07 with about 110K on it. Good vehicle but lots of little things can go wrong. For instance, the hands free unit was draining the battery and if you didn't drive it for a day it would be dead the day after. The Acura dealership just wanted to charge me for a new battery. I find out later that this was a known issue. I was toward the end of my extended warranty and felt they were kind of dishonest. 3 kids does pose an issue. Especially if car seats are involved. Third row access issues. Overall, a pretty good vehicle. Still really looks good 9 years after purchase. MDXers forum is a great place for info.

The 2015 6-speed got one mpg better than the 2016 9-speed. Same engine. How is this possible?

Just bought the wife a 2015 mdx back in July. Had a baby in the way and needed the storage capacity to haul 2 adults, baby, dog, and all the baby's gear.

Suggestions
1. Buy a CPO with nav one..... Mine was a 2015 with 3k miles on it

2. Don't buy it in the state of Louisiana as it will cost $3-$5k more.... I searched from Texas to Florida and ended up purchasing from a Dallas dealership.... They shipped it to me free

3. I got around $8k off the MSRP.... Low $40k range.... Remember to buy at the end of the month

4. Get the navigation as it comes with a ton of safety features..... Lane departure warning, blind spot warning, front braking

Wife has a 2014 MDX and loves it. A Honda Pilot would be a good alternative if you want to save a few thousand dollars. You can get the Pilot with the 9 speed transmission and it actually has more cargo capacity than the MDX and a little more leg room in the back seat.

Can't go wrong with either one though.
