Those things are insanely reliable. The engines were not very powerful, but they were well matched to that small truck.
TRD had a supercharger kit for the 3.4L V6 that supposedly bumped the HP up to 265. I feel that was underrated based on my old 4Runner I installed the kit on back in the day. Best pass in the 1/4 mile was 14.9@88mph. Stock was 16.5. Man that 4Runner was fun.

Spinoff of the turbo Toyota Tocoma breaks down thread

I know a lot of people who still drive their early 2000s Tacoma and still going strong.

Very nice. Let’s see what Paul Allen drives?

I just bought a 23 tacoma before they switched to the Turbo 4 Cyl and I am fully expecting this truck to outlive me.

Nah. I've got a 3rd gen too. The trans is crap. It has two fuel injection systems--one port, one direct.

All in the name of the federal government.

You'd have been better off getting the last of the 4runners. Those will be around 30 and more years from now with proper maintenance.

Same thing with the 2nd Gen Tacoma...which may have been the peak.

I'm in the market for a Taco, I'm just so super hesitant to pull the trigger on a 4cyl turbo.

You are one of the few on here that I don't think is FOS, so I believe you.

That said, I can take them baws to Scottsdale and hook 'em up with my man Alan Birch at Porsche and Tyler at the BMW store and we can fix that with the quickness.

I assume your qualm is with the shifting and gear hunting from a ride quality perspective?

If so, pay $300 for a tune and it'll be night and day.

Can't because he died at the end of that one. But a bat mobile is probably doable.

This is like when people say that Bill Gates still drives a 2000 Camry as if he doesn't own 10 other cars that cost $100k+

Don’t forget how Warren Buffett still lives in his original Omaha home for 1 day a year

Well it did come with a few extras, plus, a girl ran in the back of it. Got it repaired, traded. It was less than $6K. Credit Card, walk out.

Aww man sorry to burst your bubble lol.

I’m just riffing off the nonsensical meme that rich people typically live modestly.

Some do. Most don’t.

In my line of work I come across some VHNW individuals. 95% of them spend CRAZY money. I was on the phone with one yesterday and he wouldn’t stfu about the two urus’s he has to buy in order to get a revuelto.

Another just bought a 4M house and sends his kids to a six fig boarding school.

It’s a weird cope to believe your average wealthy person lives the same life and spends the same money as a middle class baw but some cling to it hard.
