Are you speaking of the research done by organizations like the esteemed Princeton Review, which makes money hand over fist fooling parents into shoveling money over to them for test coaching?

Share some of this research, I'll take a look.

High school GPA is 90% work ethic and says very little about how smart a person is IMO. Unless your just a dumbass, anyone who really tries will make a 3.5 or better in high school

Your friend may be "book smart" but the ACT does a decent job showing how naturally smart someone is and how they apply that under pressure aka good or bad test taker. Like others have said, the smart people I know did very well on the ACT

Research done at universites. I will look through my psychometric book and find the studies. There is a whole line of research on it. There are a lot of critical studies though, but even they recognize a significant positive relationship. These criticisms have led to some interesting statistical and psychometric issues due to things like selection bias. This has given rise to new analytical techniques.

There are colleges, including some elite schools, that minimize the impact of test scores, or don't use them at all. He should do some research.

I'm talking about a specific scholarship. He needs a 27 in order for his single mom to be able to afford the tuition for his dream school

Then tell him to study (even take some courses), practice, and take it more times. If he still can't get the 27, then maybe he just doesn't have the aptitude.

I didn't prepare a single minute for the things and got a 21. I was completely lost in the science part but my above average test taking skills made me get like a 20 on that section

I took it once, got what I needed and never took it again. In hindsight I should've taken it until I atleast gotten a 23, where I could've got some serious tops (I blew tops anyway but that's another story) and should've studied for it. My future kid will not make the same mistake

Although there were some kids that drove themselves crazy trying to get above a 30. They took that thing like 6 times trying to get it and scored like 27s each time. I thought that was a little overboard

Tell him to get over it and save some money. No one gives a shite where you go to undergrad. If his work ethic is as good as you say it is a great undergrad GPA will get him a free ride to the grad school he wants, or at least get him accepted to the professional school he wants.

I am sorry but this means you are not smart, saying anything else is just an attempt to make people feel better. If you can answer a question quickly you are smart, if not you aren't that smart.

I love this logic. When a high school kid can study hard and make straight A's it doesn't mean he's smart, it means he can memorize.

Congrats, you are smarter than them and your cousin. . . not so much.

I don't think that's truly fair if it's soley an issue of speed, at least when we it's just a point or two lowest because they had a couple questions left.

You are completely incorrect. They load well on G (general intelligence)

You might want to look up the reliability and validity stats of those tests as measures of IQ

Main problem is the amount of time to answer each question. Also it leaves out major areas for testing IQ.

Some ppl in this thread need to look up what the universally accepted IQ tests are, how they are structured, and why they are completely different from the ACT/SAT

I do. Everyone in the US should have to play Trivia Crack 10 times a day against random people, but they should add math, and then we should publicly rank everyone.
