Widgets are so overrated. I'm not a "fan boy" but I do have an iPhone. I'm considering switching once my contract is up, but I may not. Depends on what is available at that time.

I've had several laptops...hp, sony and a chrome book. I also have a MacBook that is about ten years old and has outlived the hp and the sony. The hp lasted about five years before I had an real problems with it. My MacBook just won't die. I love it. It pretty much got me out of anything PC and windows related with the exception of work. I really don't have a dog in the hunt as I like things about both

Ahhh. So Samsung is the new, liberated, hipster choice. Apple is establishment. Do you know the difference between hipster orthodoxy and establishment orthodoxy?

When you figure it out, do tell the rest of us.
What?

I care about neither. The Apple IIe was a great product.

Maybe I should have bought a Lisa instead.

You do know that Apple now uses Intel chips and a Linux core.

Apple's proprietary nature in that regard is done.

Yep. Newegg is littered with laptops spec'd almost identically to the MacBook for 1/2 the price. Differences being the "touch" surfaces, I.e. casing, maybe the screen and obviously the software.

I have no dog in the fight...typing from an iPad now and have had iPhones since they came out...but I refuse to buy a MacBook. Can't stand the MacBook people that always default to "ya but it just works!" or "get a MacBook cause they can't get viruses!!"

The #1 reason I hate iPhone and iPads is the restrictive nature. You have to jailbreak them to get "freedom" which is stupid.

Describe to me what you mean? What is restrictive about it? I used to jailbreak all of my iPhones, primarily due to the free tethering feature. Now, you can tether free of charge un-jailbroken.

Oh, I've owned an Android phone also. It's a perfectly capable OS, but isn't nearly refined and streamlined as iOS, and iTunes together. Yes, I think most of you Android people are beneath us iPhone users.

I don't use either. I have a windows phone. My wife has a galaxy note.

She didn't like connecting to itunes to do everything with it. She likes it. Not 100% sure why.

I like mine because it's WAY easier to use for business.

If having "freedom" is so important to you then why did you get an iPhone? It cracks me up when people say this about an iPhone bc it doesn't have widgets or shite like that. Who cares? All I know is my iPhone doesn't crash constantly like my old droid did and was very unstable. Doubt if I ever go back.

I got an iPhone 1. Then a 2. Then a 3g. Then I started to notice all the phones available and the appeal of the iPhone lost it's luster.

Went into a Mac store this weekend in downtown Portland because my GF wanted to upgrade her iphone. Holy shite!..there was a herd of geek sheep in there shoulder to shoulder.

I recently bought a cheaper droid in Alcatel Touch One and love it, the Galaxy 5 must blow the iphone out of the water.

Apple Calls in Experts to Explain Why Samsung Owes $2B in Damages

quote:

To reach that conclusion, Hauser surveyed 966 Samsung device users (507 phone owners and 459 tablet owners) to measure the percentage of consumers who would buy devices with specific features, including universal search, background syncing, quick links, automatic word correction, and slide-to-unlock, among others.

Those metrics were then used to determine how much people would pay for the Apple-patented features that Samsung included in its devices, with Hauser coming to the conclusion that customers would shell out $32 to $102 for each feature.

"The features that were enabled by the patents at issue in this case have a measurable impact on consumer demand for Samsung devices," Hauser said during his testimony Tuesday.

During cross examination, Samsung objected to Hauser's methodology, which had concluded that Samsung largely sold devices due to the features copied from Apple, and criticized it for overlooking the importance of the Samsung brand and the Android operating system.

Following Hauser's testimony, MIT-trained economist Chris Vellturo took the stand (via Re/code) to explain how Apple arrived at its $2 billion number. The damages, he said, are a mix of lost profits and estimated reasonable royalties on the millions Samsung devices that have been accused of infringing on Apple's patents.

"It's a very large market and Samsung has made a lot of sales into that market," Vellturo said, before getting into the specifics of how he came to his estimate. Samsung's alleged infringement, he said, came at a time of dramatic growth in the market as many people were buying their first smartphone.

"It's a particularly significant period for Samsung to have been infringing," Vellturo said, adding that one's first smartphone purchase is a key determining factor in future phone and tablet purchases. He added that Samsung was behind in ease of use and took Apple's know-how to aid its effort to be more competitive.

My Nexus 4 ran nonstop without a reboot since Kit Kat was released until I did an APN setting change. My iphone for work went to complete shite after the last big upgrade that Apple has since released 5 million patches to.

I had the Galaxy S Captivate, then the Galaxy S2 before promptly returning the S2 for the 4s. The two android phones I had were the flimsiest Plastic pieces of shite i ever spent money on. Ive had this 4s ever since (3-4 years now maybe) and the only problem ive ever had with it is about a year ago I had to get the volume button hardware replaced. This 4s has been rock solid. Completely sold me on Apple.

I was once an android guy but have since seen the light. I'll buy Apple from now on based on the hardware reliability alone vs samsung/android's clunky fragmented shite show.

Let's look at the facts, shall we?

LINK

quote:

If you live in the New York metro area, you don’t need to be told that Manhattan is where the region’s rich people live, and the poor live in Newark. Manhattan’s median income is $67,000 a year. Newark’s is $17,000, according to U.S. Census data.

The rich, it seems, use iPhones while the poor tweet from Androids.

The map was created by Mapbox, which markets beautiful mapping software. You can use it to zero in on your ZIP code and see how your neighborhood breaks down.

Even within Manhattan, the iPhone-Android divide picks out the wealthier neighborhoods from the poorer ones. Here is the split along the border of the Village (think brownstones and chic little designer stores) and Chinatown and the Lower East side (noodle joints and bodegas, plus a large public housing complex). Note how iPhone usage drops off heavily in Chinatown and the Lower East Side, but Android usage persists:

quote:

A Socioeconomic Split Along Class Lines, in Favor of iPhone Over Android.

Note the recurring theme: Android users are less lucrative than iPhone users, and designers are iPhone users. It’s a socioeconomic split along class lines, in favor of iPhone over Android.

quote:

“An Android User Is Worth One-Fourth of an iOS User.”
