quote:I just thouht about it. It makes sense. A piece of paper is .1cm. Fold it and it is now .2. Fold again it is .4, then.8, 1.6,3.2,6.4,12.8,25.6,51.2,102.4,204.8,409.6,819.2,1638.4,3,276.8 etc. So after 15 folds we are already at 100ft
I call bull shite on this one.

2^42=4,398,046,511,104
Multiply that by however thick paper is (which I don't know), and I don't see why it couldn't reach the moon.

So the bottle of Dasani sitting on my desk is really a bottle of T-Rex piss?

. Interesting list, never thought about Maine being the closest to Africa.

Who made the creative decision to make them orange?

I have no idea what this means

Same here.

Thank God I'm not the only one. If you fold it, it reduces in size by half. How the hell does that get you to the moon?

It means that if you were to fold a piece of paper 42 times, then it would be thick enough to reach the moon. However you'd need a really thick piece of paper. Also I don't think you can really fold a standard sheet of paper more than 7 times.
Posted on 3/28/14 at 1:47 pm to supadave3
It increases it's thickness by double though

I think the explanations above make it harder for me to understand.

It's an illustration of exponential growth. Even if a sheet of paper is only 1 mm thick, doubling that 42 times would make it thousands of miles thick. This is in theory of course, as it would be impossible.

Yeah, why do we assume that humpty dumpty is an egg?

Yep. It's like if you double a penny every day for a month. You'll be very rich.

The first one is impressed me. Who the hell thought of that ?

I call B.S. on this one. How many dinosaurs existed? How much water exists? I believe this is very unlikely.
