Was that flight enroute to NOLA? I definitely remember something about New Orleans? Complete Mad Men geek here so I was paying attention, but may have mis remembered.
I don't recall Mad Men mentioning the destination (other than petes golf joke), but the actual crash they were referencing was going to LAX.
The only Mad Men NOLA connection I can think of is the actor that played Sal, Bryan Batt, is from New Orleans.
American still uses flight number 1 for one of their JFK-LAX flights, which is untraditional after an accident.

I just read about the Crash into the Pontchartrain
My grandfather was killed in this crash. My mom was 15 years old. All they recovered was his wallet. The plane is still in the lake.
