We watched it on a TV rolled into our classroom.

Thank God Tom Hanks returned home safely so that he could go on to star in Forest Gump 24 years later.

I was about 7, and remember speculating on it with neighborhood kids.

Last year I had the opportunity to meet Fred Haise at Stennis Space Center. He was played by Bill Paxton in the movie.
A little girl asked him if he was scared when their ship malfunctioned. He very firmly said he wasn't scared, but mad that they weren't going to be able to accomplish their mission.

The five minute re-entry scene in Apollo 13 was great .

He was supposed to walk on the moon and that didn't happen because of the problems they had. I don't think he ever got the opportunity to do it again.

I literally saw this movie 2 days ago for the very first time, and it is an incredible movie.
