I must not understand art at all because that looks like something a kid could make just screwing around on a canvas.

And it's worth that kind of coin? Jesus...

A professional artist would have a hard time forging it.

must not understand art

Pretty typical, art is one of those things that looks eaiser than it is.

I think it has to do with who painted it as well.

Selling art is a great way to funnel money for illegal activities.

I like that the painting is named "red, brown, black, and orange".

Was this artist drunk?

No doubt. Pieces that were on the leading edge of a style or era carry more weight than someone who just tried to create something similar. Original ideas and such.

That looks like it would be hard to do recreate period. A lot of this kind of art is hard to see just how technical it is with a simple iPhone photo.

Is that the qualifier? It's hard to recreate?

We're experiencing unexpected technical difficulties. Please wait a moment and refresh the page."

" Pollock's drip paintings, for example (which I'm personally not that fond of), look like something a kid could have done. But at the time, Pollock's work made imaginative sense in the context of what painters had done before him; it shifted the possibilities of painting toward a new direction, and it did so while displaying an awareness of what it was doing"

some of the critic's comments are funnier than the art

the painter 'Regarded as reclusive, he had a volatile personality, and struggled with alcoholism for most of his life' which confirms an earlier poster's opinion.
