I am coaching 3/4 year old weeball. I only wanted to help but got talked into being the head coach because no other parent wanted to.
I seem to have great parent on my team and plenty of help.
We have 11 kids and we break into 3 or 4 groups.
1 group of 2 kids hits tennis balls off the tee getting individual instruction when done they rotate to home plate.
1 hits off of the tee at home plate when done they rotate to throwing station.
5 are in the fielding positions in the field. first rotates to 2nd, 2nd to ss, ss to 3rd, 3rd to pitcher, pitcher to hitting against fence.
3 are getting individual attention throwing. they rotate into first base 1 at a time as a batter gets finished.
we run bases twice at the beginning, once at the end and once when hitting at the plate.
seems to be working good so far and the parents seem to be appreciative because they said last year was horrible.

First thing you have to do is find the biggest guy and kick his arse...
No, wait. That's Prison.
Seriously, speak to the parents with authority. You tell them how it's going to go. You will never please them, and you'll keep your sanity if you are the "decider".
Also. use a text or email group for all parent communications. Let them know you would prefer to communicate that way.
How you run drills will depend on how many kids you have. Just make sure everyone gets plenty of opportunity to hit the ball - that's what they really want to do.

If you are talking wee tee, which is what we call 4yo tee ball. Don't sweat it, make sure everyone gets their uniform.
I assume you will go to the park 1 time on Saturdays, just practice one other time. They are 4.
Set up a group announcement feature, don't call everyone individually.
Practice the basics, where the bases are, how to hold a bat, where to stand in the box. Grounders, and hitting to start for drills. Toward the end you may have a few that understand how to use a glove on an airborne ball...you can work with them on that towards the end of the year.
ID a kids problems(throwing, catching, listening) and mention it to the parents to work on at home, if anyone gets pissy, offer them the clipboard.
It was a waste of time for me at that age, but good luck to you.

quote:Meh. If you are not willing to teach them to go up high and in tight to keep the batter from crowding the plate then just quit now.
You want to start them off fast. Show them the drop curve, the high fastball, and make sure the pitcher works the corners of the plate.

quote: Ridiculous they have tball for kids that age. I refuse to put my kids in ball that early. Waste of time. Mine played at 4 and will again his year. She loves it. I'm not trying to develop her for the pros....just wanting her to have fun.
Same here. First game tonight. So excited!

teach basic skills
Roll balls to them, have them throw toward a target/person, take turns batting off the tee into the fence. later, have them each get 5 swings off the tee to the whole team fielding as a live play on the last hit.
Set a constant time and location for practice- every Wednesday at 6. The moms will bitch no matter what. If they don't like it, invite them to come coach next year.
GOOD LUCK!
Thats the kinda answer I was looking for. Thanks.

Is it competitive, or is this the league where everybody bats and can only run one base at a time (more like a skills clinic)
Hell no it's not competitive. 2 innings and you bat the entire lineup.

Any tips on how to organize or run a practice with a bunch of little brats.
Start by not referring to them as "brats".
