3rd-Party Check Cashing - NOLA
Posted on 1/31/17 at 7:12 am

Is there a place that will cash a check from a 3rd-party company check in New Orleans? I'm trying to surprise my SO with a really nice gift for Valentine's Day and would prefer not to use my primary bank account.
Thanks in advance.

The bank that it's drawn from?

This has intrigue written all over it.

What's going on right now

The bank it was issued by, or any of the thousand corner stores with check cashing signs.
How do you function as an adult without knowing basic information like cashing a check?

A lot of banks, including Chase, require you to have a bank account with them to cash a 3rd-party check.
Am I going to be relegated to using one of those shady "Checks Cashed Here!" places in the dangerous part of town? What are typical fees associated with that process?

Yes you will. I don't know the fees my wife doesn't monitor our bank account because we aren't poor
If your name is on the check and you go to the bank it's drawn from they will only require ID and a small fee from the check to cash it

Your SO, hopefully a spouse if y'all share a joint account, will not be able to see that you cashed a check using the acct as recourse. Only if you deposit it.
This is why people need separate credit cards

To actually provide some help to you, we need a little more info.
From which type of merchant will you be purchasing this gift?
Price range?
Good luck.

Just call ahead and confirm it.

Why not just give him cash?

I don't understand. How would your SO know that you cashed a check from a third party at your bank? The check doesn't show up on your statement or change your balance.

Check cashing doesn't show up on your account, you moron. It's not a deposit. They won't do it, however, if you're overdrawn. You're overdrawn, aren't you?
Congrats on being irresponsible.

Does your bank send a notice to your wife for checks that you cash, but don't deposit?
ETA - I hope SO = wife/husband and you don't have a joint bank account with a girlfriend/boyfriend.
