if you have the resources to buy that price house, then you are probably smart enough to do this research on your own.

if you spent that on a house in the no. 1 place i would recommend, you wouldn't even have to see your family.

I would live on Lake Norman, right outside of Charlotte, NC. Living in a city with an airport hub is nice--able to get direct flights pretty much anywhere.

The worst thing about living/working in BR is the traffic.since you don'the have to deal with driving to work that negates about 50% of the problem

With the $ you have to spend you could be in the top tier of homes in CCLA which should negate any home security and lifestyle concerns

You get to continue to enjoy the best of South LA culture, food, friends etc

The grass is not always greener

I'm just sayin...

You're just now coming to this conclusion?

I was born and raised here and still live here, but this was noticeable at least 10 years ago. Most notably after Katrina hit. It was already going down a little then, but after Katrina, the city really started to fall fast.

Eta - do you want to stay in Louisiana or move out of state? Need to know before I can really give you a good answer. If out of state, I had to move to Jacksonville for a while for work, and really loved it there. At the time I moved there, it was booming. A lot of money was going there. May have slowed down a bit since then, not sure. If so, I think it's still a great city to raise kids in. Also, only abour 7 or 8 hours from BR.

Why the south?

I live in central Austin in your price range and it is almost exclusively white, has no crime, has every amenity and store there is, and you can (and almost everyone does) send your kids to public school. The highway system (or lack thereof) sucks, but since you work from home, that doesn't matter.

If I could live anywhere though, I'd live in Bend, Oregon. It's like Valhalla. Clean, low crime, small but not too small, pretty, lots of craft breweries and good restaurants, tons of outdoor activities, no other race but white.
