That picture is amazing. Perhaps even more amazing is that they were able to find her, some random woman in Afghanistan, so many years later for the follow up pic.

I believe she was still in the same little village.

She around 12 or 14 when the first pic was taken. Late 30's in the 2nd. Life is hard in a mud hut...

I remember reading the article around 1990 when they tracked her down. She was identified by the small burn marks on her scarf in the original pic.

She was on one of the most recognizable magazines in the world, flashing ethereal eyes. I bet she was probably a quasi-celebrity in her region for a hot minute. She was probably super easy to track down.
