An issue regarding a DUI that happened a while back that I can't comment on.

That is crazy they banned your internet usage for it. Personally I think you are fighting a losing battle trying to help these kids but if you can save even one you are a good man. Good luck!

I suggest starting a new program under the direction of the mayor and DA.

And you think the parents of those $50k a year Millsaps students would allow a dorm for underprivileged young males on their campus?

I think it could be intellectually stimulating. Think about it: a young african-american man who's been living in a crime ridden neighborhood his whole life connects with a young female sorority girl who has been privileged her whole life. Think of the of the influence that could help make on each of their lives. It would be a great story that could be this generation's version of "The Help."

I am in NO way advocating that the alleged robbers/gunman should have ever shot this woman but to just throw them in jail without at least probation would be doing our city and society a disservice.

Maybe if they had just robbed the woman, but they knew shooting /killing is wrong. Probation would be BS for these guys. If you're willing to shoot someone, not just rob them, you need jail time. Giving them probation would be doing the city/society a disservice because it would show young teens that they can do this one time and only get probation; might as well use your get out of jail free card when you're young enough to.

See this is where I disagree. The system is broken. This is mainly due to the neglect and flight of elite whites in North Jackson as well as the surrounding counties (Madison/Rankin).

Since my last post I thought of another plausible policy consideration. In addition of taxing those inside the City of Jackson, we either do one of two things: 1) mandate tax by those Rankin/Madison/Copiah county residents passing through Jackson via a toll road or 2) charge others Hinds county (such as Clinton residents) a "poor tax."

Beyond an agreement with Millsaps, I suggest these funds pay for a bussing system that goes beyond the bounds of Jackson. For instance, if you are young youth (such as these kids suspected of the crime) you will be allowed to be bussed and dropped off at certain locations such as the movie theatre in Madison, Chick-Fil-A in old Brandon, or Dogwood in Flowood. This would offer these youths a different perspective and allow them to escape the rough parts of Jackson each afternoon or evening but be back to their new dorms and gym at Millsaps by a reasonable hour.

Are you saying black people have no chance without white people helping them?

No, what I'm saying is that whites have held them down for so long (and continue to) they have a duty to reverse the discriminations of the past (particularly Jackson) by paying back their fair share.

The LAST thing white people are doing is continuing to hold them down. We go so far out of our way to help them that it is ridiculous. Yes in the past we didn't treat them as equals but these days we make HUGE sacrifices to help the black community so saying shite like that is retarded.

Really? What have you or any other white person done in Jackson (by the way, I'm white) "to help them?"

Paid taxes for welfare, given them extra protections in the workplace, allowed them easier paths into college, given them lenient sentencing for crimes, treated them as equals etc.

With regard to welfare, there just isn't enough to go around to make a difference. This should likely be increased tenfold. I agree on the workplace protections and to a certain degree regarding paths to college, however there have been very harsh sentencing for crimes (particularly those regarding drugs).

there should be ZERO forced welfare, it is nothing but stealing unless the person has already paid in. They should only be able to take out what they pay in. As far as sentencing I agree that the drug sentencing should go away but anyone that commits any violent crime needs to be locked away for at least 10 years, first offense.

My grandmother is a retired and distinguished college professor who spoke to Jackson city officials this evening. Apparently they're open to the busing idea and will discuss at next city council meeting. There will likely be three or four locations throughout the surrounding counties where the youths can visit on weekends.

I suggest giving it a chance. Besides, I think residents of the surrounding counties could be afforded the opportunity of giving back. For example, be a good person and buy the kid some new Lebrons at Dicks or pay for his or her meal at chick-fil-a. It would definitely be the noble thing to do.
