For the officer, it will just be known as a tragic accident. For everyone else, it would have been cruelty to animals.

But the cop feels bad and that is punishment enough.

People "forget" their kids and everyone around here says they understand how it can happen. That people are stressed out and in such a hurry and blah blah blah

Same logic can be applied here

Officer had to be drunk or on some type of drug to forget about those animals. Hope they test his blood. Minimum punishment needs to be 2 felony counts of animal cruelty.

He didn't notice a loud-arse bloodhound and a huge Malinois were missing from inside his house?

If a civilian did this to their personal pets, they’d be charged with animal cruelty and rightly so. This cop did this to two police officer K9’s and nothing will fricking happen.

Those poor dogs.

There is no conceivable reason to forget two large dogs in your SUV when you're a k-9 handler, and have been for seven years.

Unless, like another poster mentioned, he was fricked up on something, but we all know his blood won't be tested and the worst thing he'll get is suspension with pay.

This sucks to read about. Yeah, que up the fcktards who want to make fun of the cops, but I'm 100% sure nobody is more upset than those K-9 cops about this. Those cops are very close with their dogs.

If they were that close to them, this wouldn't happen repeatedly-and it does happen repeatedly. These guys are either indifferent or too stupid for the responsibility they've been given.

He's been relieved of duty. I hope they charged him with the death of those two officers.

He was probably at some chick's house plowing her and left the dogs in the car.

It pisses me off too. Those dogs are generally awesome, loyal as all hell, and expensive too.

I know of a guy who was a K-9 handler for a gov. contracted security force and he had a routine for ending his shift. He would go change the water, drop some food out, and clean the cage and then put the dog in and go home.

Homie was going through a divorce and I guess was stressed out of his mind with several things and he went through the steps of setting the cage up for the evening and then headed home. He forgot the damn dog locked up in the SUV. He remember a few hours later and called for other officers who were on duty to go help, but it was too late.

I do agree with some punishment and maybe severe punishment if there was some silly shite going on.

I hate seeing this shite. Seven years on K9 and you leave your partner(s) in your unit.

How in gods name do you forget your partner(s) in your vehicle when you get off shift?!

You just can't decide what side you want to be on can you? A minute ago it was tragic accident and nobody feels worse than the dogs handler to severe punishment. which is it?

Just pick the side that pisses you off more and let that be my choice.

This.

If you or I killed these dogs even accidently (remember the plot of 'Half Baked'?) we would be tried as killing an officer.
Perp attacks officers dog... Charged for assult on an officer.

Dog kills family dog after going to the wrong house (happens at least once a week, some say as much as four times a day).....officer gets slap on the wrist.
