Story kind of reminds me of that old Clint Eastwood movie Escape from Alcatraz

The inmates left a parting message, according to a picture posted to Twitter by Gareth Rhodes, the governor’s deputy press secretary. It shows a yellow Post-it note next to a hole cut in a pipe. On the note, a caricature of a man wearing a conical hat appears above the words “Have a nice day!”

Duping guards with dummies fashioned out of sweatshirts and using power tools to drill out of their cells at the Clinton Correctional Facility, the men made their getaway late Friday or early Saturday

governor said the escape took at least “a number of days” to execute and involved cutting through pipes and walls that were two feet thick

the two inmates had cut through a steel wall of their adjacent cells, shinnied down a series of internal catwalks, and burrowed their way more than a city block away before emerging from a manhole.

Mr. Matt as 6 feet tall and weighing 210 pounds. He has black hair and hazel eyes, officials said. He has a tattoo on his back that says “Mexico Forever,” hearts tattooed on his chest and left shoulder and a Marine Corps insignia tattooed on his right, according to the police.

A man and his friend told ABC News that they saw 48-year-old Richard Matt and 34-year-old David Sweat in their backyard with what looked like a guitar case. The witnesses' identities are being withheld because of safety concerns.

How in the world did they manage to get power tools, get them in their cells, and cut the wall with no one noticing or hearing a drill going?

They had inside help

They must have had some cupcakes on their walls.

So so many unanswered questions. The whole thing is pretty impressive imo.

Who would have thought a Marine capable of this kind of thing.

This should serve as a warning lesson to kids who want to tatt up their bodies: if you ever end up in a maximum security prison doing life for murder, and you escape:
• Those tattoos could serve as highly visible identifiers, leading to your capture and return to prison.
Just something to think about.

Nobody knows how they got the power tools.
My bet is they went across the border to Canada. Weird though for me b/c I was in the Adirondacks camping this past weekend while all of this was going on. We had no cell service so didn't know about it until I got home. We were a good 2 hour drive from this prison though.

Someone's gotta look out for the felons I suppose.

One of them was in prison for killing a sheriff's deputy and the other for killing and dismembering his boss. If they are found, I wouldn't be surprised if they get into a shoot out with the police.

Jail cells have TVs, hot plates, etc. these days. I get power tools would be extra loud, so that part is weird, but getting them in doesn't seem like it would be terribly hard.

Actually, it was my anti-tatting message: think before you tatt, kids!

He was probably just the muscle, not the brains.

IDK, they seem to have been rehabilitated.
Hell, they're a lot more dedicated than most subcontractors.
