Rig life

This is pretty much what you'll do all day.

Most companies would fire them on the spot for that video. Extremely stupid to be hanging there next to the spinning rotatary.

We couldn't even have cameras or phones. The floor was iced over and one of them got the pressure washer and turned it on, making him spin in circles. They filmed it and put it on YouTube. They fired him and the whole crew. Even the guys that weren't around when he did it.

Same with Noble after the guy sued for sexual harassment when they duct taped him to a chair and with whip cream on his nipples and took pictures.

Night crew on a land rig. I'm not surprised.

I thought the same thing. Many moons ago I worked in refinerys and ammonia fertilizer plants.

I saw it on Facebook and figured it'd be a nice addition to this thread.

Nobody else could get away with that, just a night crew on a land job

Not sure if you currently listen to any podcast.. But that's something I've really gotten into since working in the field.

Find and download some that interest you. To avoid the snoring of others, I put my headphones in and it helps me pass out

Also, learn to sleep on the crew boat, I couldn't do it my first couple times

Bring a pillow and fleece type blanket, a lot of times I'll just sleep on top of the sheets on the bed.

You'll also want a small flashlight (or you can use the one on your phone) for when others in your room are sleeping.

When I was slinging tongs offshore many years ago, I once rode the kelly bushings. You could get away with much more back then.

To the sunshine pumpers in here saying it's not as bad as everyone says.

You're right. But don't think it can't be bad.
There are days out here that I love my job like nothing I've ever loved before.

And there are days that it I were on land I would have walked to my truck and left.

You'll know in the first month if it's for you.

Some people can cut it. Some can't

You are definitely right BigHoss. I didn't like offshore because I felt trapped. I work on land rigs now and I'm much more comfortable even though you have to buy and cook your own food and clean your own clothes, while usually making a little less.

If he's installling waste systems as mentioned it will probably be a 2 or 3 man service crew working out of their own toolbox and what not. Everything will probably be done in under a week and thet will be gone untill the next job pops up on another rig. NBD. The roustabouts on deck normally take care of the service hands. As mentioned, food is hit or miss.

This. I am an engineer who basically manages installs of our equipment on drilling rigs. Most jobs don't go over 2 weeks... Most.

I was a directional driller overseas but I just got promoted to the office.

Nice, I want to spend about 10 years in the field before making a move to the office. I want to a nice start on my retirement accounts and get out of a mortgage first.

My company runs casing, I operate a fill up/flow back tool. Gravy job for how much they pay me. Get to hangout in the drillers shack and drink coffee, pretty much.

So you basically watch them make up your tool then get to frick off until they finish cementing. Not a bad job.

I worked in an office position before but went back to the field because I didn't care for it. I'm not crazy about going back to the office but they offered me some very good money and I'll only be working 6 months out the year.

I only joined this company 7 months ago and I have a connection high up with them. I was told by my contact that they have me pegged for an upper management position, probably in Cape Town. So I couldn't really pass on the job.

I much prefer the challenges out on the rig though. The satisfaction of finishing a challenging well is tough to beat.

The money is nice but the 5/5 international schedule is what I like the most.
