People in Oklahoma just want to get drunk and forget that they live in Oklahoma.

Many of the most-Googled brands in each state are headquartered in that state, such as Home Depot in Georgia, Target in Minnesota and McDonald's in Illinois.

The map can provide hints about the companies' sway on the culture, job market and consumption habits in each state.

Note: That Gillette is the most frequently searched company in Wyoming could be due to the fact that the state's fourth-most populous town is also named "Gillette."

I'm going to call BS on this. Chevron is not the most googled brand in Mississippi, Yahoo! is definitely not the most googled brand in California, why the frick is Connecticut googling Duracell, Delaware googling Grand Marnier, and Idaho googling HP? Not to mention LA with AT&T when we all know Verizon is the official network of the Tigers.

That map is crap. No one is googling Helmens, yahoo or googling google.

Yes, a few things wrong with the map..also the fact that no two states googled the same thing..yeah right.

One thing that also rings as moronic.."Gillette" being the most googled product in Wyoming. That's because there's a city in Wyoming named Gillette, dingbat

I find it odd that no states have the same brand. I'm skeptical.

I assume that in the case of ties brands were assigned to the state with the most (or highest ratio of) searches for that brand and then removed from the list of options for other states. Otherwise yea, no way this is in any way accurate.

Google Trends Methodology

We compiled our list of top brands by state using keyword search popularity from Google Trends. The Google Trends tool provides data for the history and volume of Google searches performed for branded terms, as well as the popularity of a branded searches across different cities and states in the US.

The maps featured throughout this article were constructed by testing a base list of 200+ US brand names and their results in Google Trends. The states were assigned a ‘top’ brand for the brand that was most popular from our list in that region.

Still no explanation about why not one of the 150 brands was repeated
