The officer ordered the driver to not reach for the weapon, but he did. The officer fired three shots, and then Chief Barber says the teenager reached for the gun a second time when he was down on the ground. The officer then fired the fourth shot.

Sounds like a justified shooting. I don't see where the kid left the officer any other choice.

Darth, you're hard to get a read on. Here we have a story where WHAT IS WRITTEN in the article tells us a black kid allegedly had a gun on him, and the police was justified in shooting him.

Not 24 hours ago, you posted

Give me one good reason he'd see the cops and knowing they were cops would then refuse to drop his weapon? Does that sound like something a reasonable 63 yr old homeowner would do? No. No it doesn't. Unless this guy had a death wish, he's not going to knowingly ignore police instructions in this instance.

But he was still shot anyway. That leaves one question. Why was he shot? There is only one possibility, namely that the cops saw this man with a gun and shot him dead before they either identified themselves or instructed him to drop his weapon. The whole story of him "ignoring police instructions" is a lie they've told to cover their asses.

in reference to a story where WHAT WAS WRITTEN was a cop went to a (wrong) house, told the homeowner to drop what he had, then shot when he didn't comply.

Now, I made sure to bold the "what was written" because none of us were there so all we have to go on is the articles that we've read. So yeah I'm aware that we probably don't know all the facts in each case.

But it just seems a bit odd that you would practically do a total 180 in less than a day regarding 2 stories that boil down to a)cop confronts citizen b)citizen has a gun (or what officer perceives as a gun) c)cop shoots citizen.

Can you explain?

Word around town here is that other witnesses are saying he was unarmed and holding a cell phone. No camera on the cop. It may get a little messy before the investigation is done and the full truth is known.

It's been widely reported on all three local news outlets that a handgun was recovered at the scene so this info is bunk.

If he reached for the gun, it's justified.

Sure, I'll be glad to explain. In the story yesterday it was quite obvious from the start that the cops who shot the old my were lying about him ignoring their instructions to drop his gun. As I said in that thread, the old man had no motivation to not follow their instructions. The only valid explanation of what happened there is the cops saw him outside with a gun and mistakenly shot him thinking he was a bad guy. The whole story of him refusing to comply with their instructions was nothing more than covering their asses for mistakenly killing this innocent man.

The story here is far different. There are multiple independent witnesses who saw this kid reaching for a gun before the cop shoots him. These witnesses also saw him still trying to pull out the gun even while already down on the ground. In this instance the cop was left with no other choice than defend himself. The cop was totally justified in this shooting.

The bottom line in that I'm not blindly "anti-cop". There are good cops and there are bad cops and I can differentiate between the two.
