I'm going to let you in on a little secret, criminals don't follow the law.

This will continue to happen across the country until the inappropriate utilization stops. There are people who go to the ED 30+ times a year. I don't care if they pay, which most don't, but that utilization clogs the system. People say it Is their only access- who in the hell needs to access a MD almost once a week like that?

There is a reason we used to say our ER was growing so quickly... It was fast, friendly, and free. Sorry for the people who may lose their jobs because this is unnecessary but we now live in a world where there is limited accountability for some.

I took the gf earlier for an ultrasound (turns out it's a boy ) but you could see the disappointment on the nurses' faces. It's really a shame, we're losing a vital service in this part of town all because some people are stingy and don't want to help the less fortunate

OLL has been feeling a lot more like EKL since the Earl closed. Very busy ER already. Patients in the hallways.

Hospitals are businesses that need to be paid.

And stop calling them less fortunate. Call them what they are. IDIOTS.

I have a 40 year old guy who works for me who just found out he doesn't have to go to the emergency room to get a script for his blood pressure meds.

That isn't less fortunate, that's a group of systemically stupid people who mooch off the system because their parents and grand parents have convinced them it is right.

I really like how the Jindal supporters allege that satellite clinics are a good substitute for an ER. Sure, educate the population about visiting a doctor, not using the ER for basic remedies. But please, tell me what that does for a heart attack, stroke, or car accident.

The clowns in charge knew exactly what was to happen when they didn't modify the provision that funding for the indigent goes to a select hospital, and doesn't follow the patient to whomever treats them. LA just loves a good political deal no matter what kind of fricked up situation it may create.

Wait I'm confused, I'm assuming you are calling the people that aren't paying their bills stingy correct? Seems like they could easily help themselves by paying their bills but unfortunately they are being stingy.

I read it as he is calling the "rich" ie those who pay their bills stingy bc they won't pay for the "less fortunate" ie those who don't pay their bills.

Nobody has a problem with helping the truly less fortunate. The people who really are unable to help themselves.

That only describes about 1% of the patients in that ER.

I keep saying that ERs should charge like a $25 copay of everyone with medicaid and those without insurance. Just a little something to make people rethink coming to the ER at 2 am on a Wednesday night because of an ingrown toenail.

Want to bring one of your children to ER for something but decide you want your other 9 children checked out for their runny noses? Sure....$25 each kid please.

I had to pay a $250 copay that night for my insurance when I went to the ER

That's why I only go there when it's an emergency.
