And some come from privileged backgrounds and are rotten to the core.

Environment isn't the only determining factor to a person's character. It is the most telling, for sure.

Menendez brothers are a perfect example.

Coco Amie Your son does diserve dicipline, but I think life is way too long. How is someone supposed to learn a lesson if they never get a second chance? I'm about his age and if I was sentenced life, I wouldn't have anything to live for. He shouldn't be told to rot in prison. Yes it is a major crime but come on. At least more than a decade in jail or house arrest, not his whole childhood. He's supposed to be going to college soon, not the joint! Think if this was your child folks.

They just don't frickin get it

What this story doesn't tell you is that this monster also shot my friend in the face. Thank goodness he lived. Yeah, the court system is messed up and y'all don't know the story behind that incident as well. What a joke.

anyone know this story?

Yes, this kid shot a 20 something year old guy who was riding his bike. About a mile from my house no less.

This bastard was bad news. He got what he deserved.

Let's see if we can count all the predictable societal markers:

15 year old with gun looking for random victims. Check.
Gang signs. Check.
Mom making excuses for son. Check.
People who attempt to normalize shocking violence. Check.
A complete absence of Rational Thought. Check.
A shocking degree of moral relativism cloaked in pseudo-religious gobbly-asian. Check.
Racial grievance. Check.
Complete dismissal of common denominator social pathologies. Check.
Complete dismissal of all previous behavioral indicators. Check.
No concern for victims. Check.
Hostility towards The Rule Of Law. Check.
No personal responsibility. Check.
Transferring guilt onto the larger society. Check.
No real concern for the larger society or societal trends. Check.
No lessons learned by those surrounding the perpetrator. Check.

Not only did this shitstain take an innocent life, and shoot yet another person, and lose his freedom for his entire life-but-ABSOLUTELY NO LESSONS WERE LEARNED. Not a single person on the killers "side" shows any ability to learn something life-affirming or emotionally-reflective. The moral failings of those who can't or won't connect the dots is only slightly less-depressing than the crimes themselves. These moral failings and lack of SERIOUS MORAL REFLECTION guarantees that this mindless violence and the culture that spawns it continues ad infinitum.

frick that "kid" and frick everybody that defends him.

The guy who got shot and survived is a friend of mine. His mom called me from the hospital after it happened. He was riding his bike, passed by a group of kids and one pulled out a gun, PUT IT TO HIS FACE, and shot him. In inch and any direction and he'd be dead. No conversation or conflict, nothing. He was able to ID the kid after the woman was shot, thus the reason the kid was caught. My friend and I had lunch today; the bullet is still visibly in there but he has surgery scheduled to have it removed. The original charge in his case was attempted murder, lessened to "aggravated assault" due to the plea bargain. So basically, he didn't get any time for trying to murder my friend. It's absolute bullshite and my friend is furious but at least he's alive.
