40 gallon tank with a newer model 4 stroke engine I could easily see someone going out that far.

That would be nearly a 400 mile round trip. You know of a boat that gets 10 miles to the gallon?

Something doesn't add up here, not sure a boat that size has the fuel capacity to get out there, much less make the round trip.

My thoughts...something is fishy

I must be running the wrong kind of four stroke. You are saying a four stroke can go 320 miles on 40 gallons of gas??? That's 8 miles per gallon some trucks don't get that good of mielage.

I am betting on a drug boat

Not likely at all that anyone would be running drugs in an open boat, especially one of that type that far out.

This boat most likely drifted there from somewhere far closer to land or was stolen, stripped, and set adrift.

I never said he was going to go round trip. I was just saying he could get out that far, dumb arse probably didn't even think about getting back.

That's what I'm thinking. Probably just drifted. I've seen a flat boat out around 300 miles just floating around. Made a good perch for some birds though

How do people not get sick when the go with him? I've never been seasick in my life UNTIL an offshore trip in DR. Probably 35' boat? It had a cabin that could seat about 6-8. We were idling and fishing in 4-6' swells. The pitch an roll and yaw of that boat and those swells were probably as bad as a deadliest catch boat as far as my inner ear was concerned. And those are 120' boats in 20-30' seas.

The thought of a 21' boat in 3' swells makes me sick to think of. Add to it the distance from shore and exposure to elements. Storm pops up and you are uncovered in a 16' boat and 4 hours from shore? If you don't capsize trying to haul arse in those conditions?

Saw this 2 years ago. About 80 miles offshore and they had about 6 nice boats fishing(charter big money stuff)the rig we were servicing. Bad storm rolled in, all the guys went in their respective cabins on their boats. This one small center console boat, with 6 college aged guys, sat there getting demolished for almost an hour. I almost felt sorry for them but hell we are 80 miles offshore and you're in that little boat.

I run from Biloxi to Horn Mountain to Venice and back a few times a year, trip is approx. 170 miles each way depending on detours and trolling, really never more than 80 miles from land though.

See lots of folks taking huge chances in inadequate boats, have even seen dipshits in a 20 ft bay boat 60 miles or so out with a 55 gal drum in the boat along with 4 people. At least it looked like they had plenty of beer.

161 miles south of the mouth of the river is a whole different ballgame though, you are beyond fricked if there is any change in weather in a vessel that size, no where to run no where to hide.

Hell, I saw someone in a 15 foot whaler sport (the old ones) off shore one time. I have one and I don't even go to the sound with it because it scares the hell out of me.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Define "fairly often"

I have 21ft bay boat with Yammy 200.

At cruise it gets around 5mpg(calm water)
