Is it chip and PIN? I'm not sure if a chase sapphire is the same as my CSP.

Did you pay an exchange fee? If so, why not just use an ATM there? I assume you alerted your bank, since you alerted everyone else including the OT.

Alerted my bank and my bank has a smaller exchange fee than the ATM so I went with it, rather than standing in line.

Good. A lot of people don't even think about this and a lot of places don't swipe anymore.

It's been a few years since I've been abroad (2009 I think) but I always used credit cards (had one at the time with no international fee) and ATMs.

that used to be the best way because you would get the best exchange rate during your billing cycle, not so much anymore, seems the banks don't miss any opportunities to gouge you anymore, I get around a pretty good bit, despite the ridicule of the OT, I primarily use my debit card

I'm glad to know I'm not the only person who does this for trips. I also have a beginning/ending inventory of the items I brought so I can check them into the bag and check them out. If I'm going somewhere with a high crime rate, I will also take pictures of the valuable items a la my laptop. It really saved my bacon because I forgot my tablet and the TSA officer wouldn't let me touch it so I could show him I knew the logon. I just showed him a picture of it taken 7 days previously and that it was on my inventory. He said he understood why I was an accountant.
