Friend of mine's daughter had that surgery. Recovered fast, looks great. Cute normal little girl now. Find the best surgeon you can find. Theirs was a young guy in Missouri. Don't know the name but he was highly recommended.

How do you do physical therapy on an infants head??
Very delicately
It's just a series of neck stretches, ear to shoulder, chin to shoulder, etc. It's for the torticollis, not sure yet what we will be directed to do for the plagiocephaly, if that's all he ends up having.

The child will have an obvious preference for head position in lying on his back and in sitting. In this case, the child likes to have his head turned to the right.
In a effort to restore symmetry, the child will be positioned and functionally challenged (i.e. stimulated and/or forced) to move his head into left rotation ( and whatever else ) through functional tasks, game play, etc.
ETA: Good luck and prayers sent to ILikeLSUToo and your son.

We were referred to Dr. Allen Joseph in BR. The nurses at the pediatrician's office tried to call today, and of course the answering service folks are trying to say "earliest appointment is 2 months from now." Pediatrician said frick that (in different words). So now they are trying to get in touch with a nurse over there and get an earlier appointment.
Getting other opinions is always good, that being said, Allen Joseph is one of the best pediatric neurosurgeons on the planet.
"Dr. Joseph completed his internship and general surgery training at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, Texas. His neurological surgery training took place at Baylor affiliated hospitals in the Texas Medical Center. He moved to Toronto,Canada to train in pediatric neurosurgery at the Hospital for Sick Children. He later served as Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Walter Reed Army MedicalCenter in Washington, D.C."

Prayers for your little one.
That has to be hard to look at your kid with a whopped head. First because you know if it's only appearance and not anything that would affect his health then that should take precedent, but you also want your kid to look normal as possible. Has to be hard all around.
Seriously hope it all turns out perfect in the long run.

Hey bud, hope all goes well with the scan. From the looks of the drawing you showed, it may be nothing more than "positional plagiocephaly." Hopefully that's all, and no surgery is needed.
But for your sake, I'd like to clear up some of the other nonsense I've read in this read. The scan will be very definitive. If it shows that the cranial sutures have prematurely fused, then surgery will be necessary. It's has nothing to do with greed or even cosmesis. The operation is necessary to reduce the intracranial pressure and allow normal neural development.

1. Get a second opinion.
2. The surgery isnt actually that big a deal if it is even needed.

I know a girl who had this I didn't notice the spot her hair doesn't grow (from the scar) until she said something, and it runs perpendicular to her hair part. She's still a pretty girl.

So I was wrong about the date of the CT scan. It was today, not tomorrow.
As I suspected, there was no one "authorized" to give us any medical opinion/interpretation of the scan results. They were sent to radiology, who sends them to the neurosurgeon, who will supposedly call us back this week.
However... the hospital did provide us with a CD of the images, meant to to be given to other hospitals if needed.
Of course, I had to look at the images. Popped in the CD, navigated through the PacsCube portable software or whatever it's called, and pulled up 200+ images. I wasn't expecting to be able to interpret them, and most of them were just blurry brain scans. But as I scrolled through them, I came upon a couple of rotatable composite 3d images. Here's a shot from one:
Obviously, I'm not a doctor, but I Google the shite out of things, and I don't see how those scans can be interpreted any other way than a clear textbook image of Lambdoid Synostosis.

I think you might be right regarding the lambdoid suture. The right side does look fused. I hope all goes well. Bless you and your family.

Wife says no surgery. Doesn't typically hinder brain growth, either. No additional pressure too.

1st off, don't freak. Google can be a great helper when it comes to finding out more about your child's condition, but it can also be your worst enemy in that it sometimes makes you jump to the worst possible outcome. From experience (not with this condition, but other problems with my kids), I know you want to find out as much as possible. This is good because you can prepare yourself and formulate questions for the doctor before he slams you with bad news.
But you still have to wait to hear from the doctor, and his experience may lead him to another conclusion. If you don't absolutely trust his judgement, be prepared to get a second opinion.
Stay strong, and don't let yourself or your wife feel like there was something either of you could have done to prevent this. Good luck!

My wife is a neuro radiologist. Showed the image to her and asked "what do you see?" She takes a look and says "a fused lambdoid suture."

Take a deep breath and focus on the fact your baby is gonna be ok.

Wish i could send you the whole article but im out of town working off my phone.
Talk to your neurosurgeon. If he/she recommends an operation, do it. These operations are performed everydAy. It will be fine. Nonetheless, prayers for you and your fam in this stressful time.

Like the doctor above wrote, your child will be okay. That is the most important thing and just keep reminding yourself you will enjoy seeing your son grow up to be a healthy, normal kid.

Great "read"
LSUtoo, go talk to your pedi neurosurgeon to see if its severe enough to warrant surgery.

Edited. Disregard my previous questions if you saw them. I think I took your comment out of context.

He is supposed to call us with his official results by tomorrow or Friday, and a appointment is scheduled with him two weeks from now. Things moving a bit too slowly for my comfort, but that's just how it is. Pretty sure he's the only pedi neurosurgeon in BR.
