You act as if Luck doesn't keep his team in super bowl talks.
Luck under Payton on this year's Saints team wouldn't change yalls chances of going to the super bowl 1 bit.

Um, yeah it would. Luck is a fine QB, but he's not on Brees's level right now.

It doesn't matter if is Luck or Brees, y'all will have a top 5 offense. Y'all have that good of a offensive mind at head coach for me to be comfortable enough to say that.

Sure, Luck might have a few hundred yards less passing, but yalls superbowl chances are based on Yalls D. If it comes down to y'all playing in Seattle for the NFC championship, Luck or Brees won't make or break y'all. Its how your defense plays that will make the difference.

No. No no no. Top 10 maybe, but what you see in New Orleans took years and years. Payton and Brees are on the same wavelength. They'll often walk up to each other during games thinking about the same play. You just can't plug another good QB into that.

If it's a hypothetical "Let's say Luck has been with the Saints since his rookie year," then yes, the offense would be potent, but he STILL could not perform at the level that Brees does.

Brees wasn't on Brees' level until Payton

Payton can get Luck on Brees' level

This year? We're talking about THIS year. He said switching Luck for Brees wouldn't effect our SB chances.

This is a dumb hypothetical, proposed by a troll poster, and I don't understand why this thread has gone on as long as it has, and I don't know why I got involved, so I apologize.

I mean, this will all be a matter of opinion, but let's just even say they are not top 10, like 7 or 8. That is still much better than last year's superbowl champion Seattle Seahawks offense was.

I get that yall love Brees, and y'all should. He is a even better person than he is a qb. And no one is taking anything away from Brees. But in this pass heavy league now, Luck could come in and instantly put up almost as good numbers.

This only makes sense if Luck is just as good as Brees right now. He isn't.

Without Brees, the Saints are a worse team. A worse team has less of a chance of making the Super Bowl than a better team. It's that simple.

Last 2 super bowl champions didn't have a top 5 offense or a top 10 qb. They both had stellar D.

The production level would be a minimal difference. And seeing how it would still be better than the last 2 superbowl champs, it's painfully obvious how minute of a change it would be on yalls odds. As stated before, your defense and how it will preform is the key to your odds.

But if your trying explain to a 5 year old, it'd probably be easier to tell them what you said.

ETA: just to put things into perspective, let's compare the Saints last year to the Panthers.
Saints ended 4th in offense and defense.
The Panthers were 26th in offense and 2 in defense. So a team 22 spots worse on offense but only 2 spots better in D won the division and got a home playoff game.

Strength of schedule and they also lost that home playoff game.

This puts nothing in perspective. There are much more important stats. Tell me each teams 3rd down conversion rate. What about 3rd down stop % on defense?

How about yards per play?
Number of turnovers?

Your example is full retard.

It's all irrelevent.

This is the situation. He is saying that you can take a team's best player who also plays the most important position in the sport and replace him with a player who isn't as good, and the result will be that the team will be just as good as before.

It doesn't take a genius to see that that is dumb as dog shite. You can throw out all the irrelevent stats that you want. It really is that simple.

Honest question:

You do understand that this is not a real picture of a real life football game, correct? :

No way.
Here's a listing of QBs taken with the 1st pick, going back to 87 (just an arbitrary year, I didn't want to go back further).

2012 Andrew Luck
2011 Cam Newton
2010 Sam Bradford
2009 Matt Stafford
2007 JaMarcus Russell
2005 Alex D. Smith
2004 Eli Manning
2003 Carson Palmer
2002 David Carr
2001 Michael Vick
1999 Tim Couch
1998 Peyton Manning
1993 Drew Bledsoe
1990 Jeff George
1989 Troy Aikman
1987 Vinny Testaverde

Drew is an elite QB who's going to the Hall of Fame in the first ballot. He hasn't had great offensive talent around him in NOLA, most of his success is on him.
Only guy on that list with any serious time played, whose career matches Brees, is Peyton Manning. Aikman had all-pros at nearly every position. Stafford might put up some very good numbers in Detroit (better thus far than Luck).
Carr and Russell are out of the league already, Bradford and Smith have been underwhelming, etc.

Simply put, you know what you will get with Brees over the next few seasons, and the odds are he will be better than Luck. If you look at all those first rd picks, there's decent odds that Luck will never approach the level Brees is at now.
