As much as everyone hates him, I think Murphy may still be PS eligible IF we want to keep an extra 3rd down back around. If we keep Cadet there's no need to though.

As for a backup 1st and 2nd down back, we have Ingram, Peterson, and Kamara that can fill that role. No need to have a guy like that on the PS this year.

One injury and we are picking one off the street. That was my point and also not possibly developing a RB on the practice squad for the future.

Our depth is as good as it's been since we had PT, Bush, and Bell or PT, Ingram, and Sproles.

You can't just force a guy onto the PS because.

And we have 3 (maybe 4 but Lasco got hurt just when he started working in rotation last year) legit runners and 2 legit 50+ catch HBs. We can withstand an injury or two, and nobody we have would come off of the PS and do crap anyway.

You roll with what you have this year and if you get 2 injuries then you grab someone "off the street". 1 injury won't do us in this year, and 2 injuries may not either.

You can disagree that's fine, but the Pierre Thomas returned kicks and was a RB at Illinois like Marcus Murphy returned kicks and punts and was a RB at Mizzou, that's the comparison I'm drawing. The Saints drafted Murphy thinking he would be another Pierre Thomas, be a productive runner in committee with the other RB's and catch passes out of the backfield, but what they didn't realize was that Pierre Thomas was a much better RB than Marcus Murphy could ever hope to be. Dude will be cut this year along with Cadet I think.

Also, the crazy thing is Thomas was an UDFA while the Saints drafted Murphy. There is no way Thomas should have gone undrafted.

Barring injury, I just can't see either Cadet or Murphy making the roster.
I completely agree.

You are right in that PT should have never gone undrafted, but most 6th and 7th round picks have the same grade as many UDFAs. All of those guys are long shots.

It's so cute the way some of you are speculating whether kamara will make the team. Mike maycocks 28th best player in the draft

Kamara is a stone cold lock to make it. He gives us depth as both a runner on early downs and as a passing down back with Ingram.

He was one of the three legit runners I was talking about.

We all know Cadet is not a running back. Murphy hasn't shown to be either. Maybe Lasco can be.

I've never seen someone look so different running in the nfl than they did in college (Lasco). We have had a very limited sample size, but the guy looks like a complete 3 down back in his highlight tape, and one with an incredible ceiling. Last year every time he touched the ball he looked slow, timid, and lacked shiftiness, the complete opposite of what you see from him at Cal. Hopefully he will get in a groove and become the NFL running back that his college tape says he can be.

I don't see that happening.

He only touched the ball 13 times (11 carries and 2 catches). Way too small of a sample size to judge anything.

And I think he was a 7th rounder, but may have been a 6th.

Meant to follow up. Round 7, pick 237. And no problem.

Lasco looked pretty good from what I saw in his limited touches. He seems to be a pretty complete back. I like his potential, & think he can be part of our RB by committee in the future. Fortunately we don't need him right now, but he could be very valuable to us in a couple of years after Ingram & AP's contracts are over.
