Antonio Pittman is certainly the exception and I highly doubt the situation would be repeated, but there is the precedent.

Pittman was cut because a UDFA from the same class beat him out.

Kamara's only competition is Cadet, and we already know his ceiling.

Please for the love of god cut the most bland running back of all time (Cadet)

Not sure I've ever seen him break a tackle

Lasco gives you special teams play so I think he's basically a lock as is Kamara.

Comes down to if they think Cadet is better than a linebacker or tight end for special teams

I hope they don't think that. 4 RBs. SEEYA CADET!

Unless they are able to have a pass catching RB that they feel good about stashed on the practice squad the Saints will keep 5 RB's. Cadet would be the 5th as insurance if Kamara gets hurt, would be inactive on game days.

He's going to be Darren Sproles essentially.

He not going to be Darren Sproles. He's going to be somewhere between Pierre and Darren as far as role and talent.

He will be available at any time if they put him on the street. If Kamara gets hurt, they can re-sign him. It's not like he can help if he's inactive and Kamara is injured in the first quarter.

The only way I can see us keeping 5 is if CSP wants to keep Cadet just in case Kamara gets hurt. Cadet isn't needed for special teams with Kamara & Ginn on the roster. If CSP thinks Cadet will be scooped up by a team after we cut him...he might keep him. Hopefully he doesn't though.

Marcus Murphy is basically fighting for a spot on the practice squad imo.

You lost me when you insinuated that there was actually a decision to be made between Kamara and Cadet. Stopped reading after that despite enjoying the title of the thread.

We are keeping Cadet to retrieve CSP's vicodin and "juicy fruit" during games. Payton really likes him and the only logical explanation for Cadet playing for the Saints so many years is that Cadet is Sean's dealer.

Or, Cadet works for the secret US space program and Sean is fronting as an employer in service to our country.

The ultimate reason Pittman didn't stay with the Saints is because Pierre Thomas out-played him in the preseason and wowed everyone, especially since he was an undrafted free agent. Pierre essentially took over the role Pittman was going to play for the Saints.

The Saints didn't sign any undrafted free agent running backs this offseason, so I think Kamara is safe.

Y'all do realize that we kept 5 RBs and a FB after the final cuts the last 2 years right?

Goddammit Meat, we are trying to ignore ways Cadet might stay.

That said I could see him staying (barf) as the 5th HB/6th WR if we feel like we can afford the roster spot.

But our defense is a lot deeper this year compared to the last two, so I'm not sure they can.

I'm sure training camp and injuries will take at least one out. Everyone is always saying how deep we are here and there, but then the injuries hit, and all these questions become inconsequential

Just don't see cadet making the roster

If he does it bc Kamara got hurt in camp. RBs with Cadet's skill set are not that hard to find.

Antonio Pittman came from Payton's favorite school he loves to draft from, the Ohio State, but he was overrated and Payton lucked up in signing PT Cruiser as a UDFA. Pierre Thomas was what Marcus Murphy was supposed to be, but doesn't have the same kind of talent. Pierre played special teams in college like Murphy returning punts and shite, and was a back up RB like Murphy, but the dude (PT) could just run as Saints opponents found out trying to tackle him. Daniel Lasco makes the team before Kamara to me because he is a much more solid RB and receiver out of the backfield than people realize. And of course Kamara is the 4th RB, Cadet is the odd man out here, I don't understand myself how he keeps making the Saints team.

Barring injury, I just can't see either Cadet or Murphy making the roster. Like someone above mentioned, we have much better defensive depth that should take up more spots. A 5th RB will be one of the odd men out.

Agree. But what I don't see is practice squad candidates for the 1-2 down back and a 3rd down back. CSP seems to have no worries about picking up mid season replacements for either position if need be.

I would like to see something on the practice squad.
