Becuase without him the Saints would flat out suck. 8-8 at best. I've been watching the Saints since the mid 70's and even with the the dome patrol everyone deep down inside knew we had no shot at a Supr Bowl. Drew Breese gives the Saint's a chance to win against anyone.

Hell I doubt any have ever played in both the Alamo Bowl and Outback bowl except for maybe 2 classes of Perdue alum that played in them with Drew.

If they are making him the highest paid player in the league I can't really see much of an argument Brees has in this issue.
If the NFL didn't have the same cap rules I am sure the Saints would offer more.
Obviously the Saints can't win a Super Bowl every year with just an awesome offense so that is a very legit argument for the front office. They have to be able to spend money on quality defensive guys.
