Since Lattimore and Crawley are playing at such a high level and I expect PJ to get out of the doghouse soon, where does Breaux fit into the plans? Also, when is he expected to come back to the field?

Nickel to work his way back into the lineup. They can eval as he hopefully progresses. Would be a great problem to have.

Week 9 we get him back assuming he's ready

I've been wondering the same thing myself. I don't want to disrupt what we have going on right now.

I really want to see PJ work his way out of the doghouse. He has always played pretty well when healthy. At least good enough to be in the 3 man rotation

We might have two solid healthy corners all season long as they rotate injuries. It's a good problem to have. All 3 on the field is a bonus.

He's not a nickel type corner. He struggles when he faces those types of receivers (quick moves) on the outside if he can't grab hold of them. If he is inside they usually play off the line and he won't be able to jam near as often.

What should be done is make sure he is FULLY healthy and put him in over Crawley and see if the defense improves or not.

Crawley still has the grabbies and while he got away with it against Car and Mia, he got caught against Det. Like last year I like his potential but the penalties can be killers.

But what we should not mess with is the 3 safety set. That has been working very well. Keep that going and just play whoever is better out of Crawley/Breaux opposite of Lattimore and call it a day.

He is not going to be football ready to take on a side Bone. I get what you are saying but I think they ease him back in.

Easing him back in is not putting him in the slot. The slot isn't easier than playing outside. It's completely different (meaning neither is easier or harder, just very different).

Breaux is not a nickel corner, is not made to play nickel, and will not play nickel.

It's the same reason Crawley only plays on the outside. He would get destroyed inside because the style of play goes against everything he is good at, and he and Breaux are very similar players.

If they are going to ease him in, he and Crawley will be rotating. Williams and Moore (and in a horrible way Harris) are the only CBs we have that can play inside. We are better off (and have been if you look at the record since the switch) with Vaccaro in the slot.

Edit:
Didn't mean to leave out Lattimore. I'm sure he can play inside, but he's way too valuable on the outside to move him.

For what? He's been often injured and has about 10-12 good games on film.

He's worth more to us in case someone else goes down than the 6th or 7th he'd fetch.

Especially since, if he comes back and plays well, he's relatively cheap in 2018 ($2.7m if we give him a 2nd round tender, which no one will bite on unless he comes back and is literally Deion Sanders for ~7 games).

This is my preference. I like Crawley & everything he brings to the table, but he's going to have random games with multiple penalties. I guess it just depends on what officiating crew we get, b/c he's been overly physical with WR's in all 3 games he's played in.

I'd rather Breaux at CB if he's 100% healthy & playing like he did at the beginning of last year. If he plays like he did when he came back from the injury last year...I'd rather just roll with Crawley & take the good with the bad.

Hopefully CSP lets PJ Williams out of the doghouse soon. I like him more than most people on this board. He can play inside & outside...also damn good against the run for a CB. Just don't expect much out of him in a zone defense.

use him in the redzone package in press against physical wrs, and in dime situations put him and crawley outside with lattimore and pj inside. and if u wanna get bold, maybe try him at safety next to Williams since we use vaccaro as a slot/linebacker and bell can't cover (in practice to see how he responds)

can he play the run? He is a larger DB could he slide in to the Vaccarro role keep us from having to pay him next season. Just a thought

I don't see him supplanting Lattimore and Crawley. But depth is a great thing.

Let him get some reps in at nickel. There's no possible way Allen puts Breaux out there ahead of Crawley/Lattimore. (but of course who would be surprised?)

This is such a good 'problem' to have with Breaux back healthy. We've never been so deep at CB like this before.
