Breaux was average / below average last year. I can't imagine he will be able to beat out any of our top 3 coming off of a foot injury.

Gradually get him back in the line up. Thankfully the other guys are starting to play well so we don't have to force him in earlier than needed. Get him healed and play snaps here and there. Having this many good CB's is something not many teams can say.

It was a broken fibula, same injury he tried to come back from way too early last year. That's why he was bad last year.

He's also a free agent this year. Realistically, he'll be cheap so we have time to figure things out

He's a RFA not UFA so they can just tender him for relatively cheap.

My concern is that it appears that Allen has no clue how anyone will perform based on practice. It's trial by fire in the games otherwise how the frick can you explain Harris starting over Crawley or even Moore?

I'm worried that:

A: Breaux is back to 2015 levels and could give us the best set of CBs in team history, but never sees the field because Allen's a retard

or

B: Breaux is a shell of his former self and supplants Crawley because Allen is a retard

The common denominator is my lack of faith in Allen to make the right decision.

Yeah Thrillho just posted on the last page what the 2nd round tender would be ($2.7 mil).

If he shows anything this year I'm kind of inclined to just leaving him on the tender and seeing if he can play a healthy year as opposed to trying to sign him long term with a slightly cheaper first year.

On Allen, I was the same way (possibly the biggest Allen hater here) but after the Pats game I'm cautiously optimistic he may have turned the corner on his old ways.

On another note, I'm still not getting the play him at nickel/safety posts just to try to get him on the field. Those are both very different positions from outside corner and as far as I know Breaux has only ever played outside and that's what his skill set is tailored for.

Playing nickel is about as similar to playing outside corner as it is to playing outside linebacker. It's a very different thing and not something you throw someone into to ease them in on see how they play. That will only lead to Breaux struggling. Same if they tried him at safety.

His biggest strength is literally his strength and jamming receivers at the line. You move him to nickel or safety and it's like moving Vaccaro to (deep) safety or outside corner (and we've seen how that first one goes). He'd be playing with only rarely getting to do what he does best.

What about the last 3 games makes you think Allen is a retard? This is stupid. He deserves all the credit for getting this defense ready. If he is being shite on when they are bad, how come he gets no credit when they are good? Also, Harris wasn't necessarily playing "over" Crawley. Harris is slot CB, Crawley is not (as Bone explained in previous posts). Crawly being inactive the first two weeks was stupid, but in no way indicative of what Harris was/isn't. Hell, Harris has been active every game that Crawley has been. Allen has just figured out the best way to use the 3 safety sets.

No complaints the last three games but it's still inexcusable that he started Harris the first two. All he's doing now is what the fans thought he should be doing from day 1.

Crawley may suck at Nickel but I bet he'd still have been better than Harris.

Even if not, why did it take two games to determine Bell was a better option to have on the field than freaking Harris?

Vaccaro is who we thought he is. Good in the slot. Yet, it still took two games to figure that out?

That Harris experiment should have been scrapped at the end of the first half vs the Vikings.

Given our track record at that position, I want depth all day. Seems like we always have a crucial injury there at some point in the season that leaves us in a bind.

Oh please. Most of these frickers wanted Sterling Moore (who is GARBAGE) to be starting over Crawley AND Harris. Hardly anyone believed in Crawley before a week or two ago even though he was clearly the best pure cover corner on the team last year.

False. Crawley looked great in camp and preseason. Moore > Harris.

BTW if you google Breaux and the nickel position it appears the Saints brought him in for this position and that is where he started camp.

The Minnesota game Harris played boundary corner (outside), PJ was the nickel back vs 3 we sets. When Allen saw that he would not have success on the boundary, Harris was moved to the nickel against the Patriots. He definitely started over Crawley based on roster position, there’s no other way to look at it.

Breaux looked great two years ago. If he gets back to that form he was very physical and could play bigger wide receivers like Jones and Evans very well.

With Breaux we could play alot of Nickel or even Dime with Lattimore, Crawley, Breaux, Bell, Williams, and Vicarro.

Iirc last week the first week he could practice. Doing 7 on 7s this week is a good sign he's progressing on schedule.

He'll be the first CB off the bench but won't necessarily cover the slot. This is not a bad problem to have and we may need him to start again before the end of the season.
