If we can get through week 6 at, say 3-3, I think that's a big win. The early part of the schedule is a LOT tougher than the last 10 games, IMO.

We get Lewis back, we get Byrd back (lol), we get CJ Spiller going. The rookies will have some serious experience under their belts.

We then go:

Giants, Titans, @Redskins, @Texans, Panthers, @Bucs, Lions, Jaguars, @ Falcons.

That's a lot of winnable games. I'm not panicking...yet.

TBH, I fully expected a loss to Arizona to start the season.

They are one of the better teams in the NFC this season and it was opening day in their house.

If we cannot handle business Sunday vs TB in the Dome we're in for quite a long season. They are just God awful.

weird situation... losing would tell us a lot... winning won't tell us much. I feel like the whole season is going to be like that... what exactly do we have here with all these young guys? We may not really find out until season's end.

I agree with your assessment, although 3-3 might be tough to accomplish.

Is C. J. Spiller supposed to play this week?

Ok guy.

Yes he is. It was a 4-6 week injury. He'll be back just fine.

If not they would have placed him on IR or IR Designated to Return.

I have very little doubt he comes back. Couldn't keep him off the field last year.

What I have heard is that its up in the air but he will almost certainly be ready to go in Week 3.

What in that game convinced you we can't win this week? Only 3 teams scored more than 20 on them last year, and they were 9-1 with wins at Dallas and a win over the NFC champ at home before their QBs got hurt.

We were within a TD with the ball with 2 minutes to go. It's not like we were blown out. People need to calm down.

Really without that all out run blitz at the end which let them make an easy pass to the flat for a TD, we were within 5 points.

And that was with the defense playing horrible the first two drives giving up 14 points (10 the rest of the way until the last play), going 1 for 4 in the red zone, and Brees being very inaccurate and indecisive at times. On top of the poor play calling.

If we don't beat TB we can panic. We lost by "5" to a top nfc team from last year while playing poor football. If we even played a tiny bit better things could have gone differently.

I agree. I think most reasonable fans weren't expecting a win against the Cards at their place to start the year...more like hopeful. We're just so young on defense right now and Coleman/Snead need a little more experience as well. This team will gel at some point during the season...hopefully they do it sooner rather than later.

Exactly, in case you haven't noticed we seem to need the roster space lately.

I don't think it'll be that tough.

TB should be a win. Car & Atl will be tough, but neither appeared to be world beaters; so I think we can get 1 of those. I was not impressed with Philly last night and think the score had more to do w/ ATL making mistakes, then Philly forcing them. I think we can win that game. And Dallas lost their best WR, while we could be getting our best CB; that looks to be a winnable game now; but I would hold out on a prediction until we see how they adjust w/o Dez.

So, I see 3-4 wins from our next 5 games.

I was more surprised by the way Brees/the offense played. I thought we'd win but wasn't sure how our defense would look. After the game I felt, first two drives aside, the defense outplayed the offense.

If you call pass on first and run on second nearly every drive the D will figure it out (and they did as they run blitzed a ton and were almost always right). And we cannot look for the shot play first on every pass play. And if we weren't looking for the shot play it was a screen.

We never committed to the run or the intermediate passing game.

Good news is about everything we did wrong is correctable, and some of it very easily so (play calling and read progression; not playing off zone on defense; committing to the run). The question is will we correct it.

yeah that was the biggest repeat failing from last season that I saw on Sunday that killed us last year and will do so again this year if we don't fix it. Coming up empty on the first two drives and giving up long TD drives in between. We are not built to win from behind like that.

I liked our defense as well as a whole, but they should get better with the injured guys coming back and the younger guys getting more experience. I was very pleased with their performance...I was expecting worse. We need to get more out of Jenkins & Hicks though...if we don't, then we may have to make some offseason moves concerning at least one of them. Hicks can't rush the passer and he isn't exactly killing it against the run...kind of seems like a weak link. There are cheap DE's out there that can at least stop the run good. And where the hell is Edebali...we need a pass rush?

As far as the offense...the oline play was very good imo. Not perfect, but surely good enough. We had the same problem that we had at the beginning of last year...Not being able to finish drives and settling for FG's. I assume CSP will adjust his playcalling though.

All problems are correctable and this can be a good team that makes it into the playoffs and gets hot. My biggest concern though...is our pass rush, Jesus Christ. I just don't think we have the guys to get it done...hopefully they prove me wrong.

yeah, I felt like we had a good chance at an upset though. I wasn't totally confident we'd pull it off but stranger things have happened.

look at all the surprise results from Week 1 around the league.

We dropped a few interceptions that could have helped out big time. That was really my only beef with the D. Other than that, I thought the guys in the secondary/LB's did all they could. The throw that Hawthorne got beat for the TD was just a nice play on their part.

D-line had trouble getting after the QB... nothing new there.

but it also could have been worse because Arizona made a few mistakes with 12 men on the field and how they used some their timeouts.

I don't know what to expect really moving forward... Tampa Bay won't come to town in a good mood after they got their arse beat.

but this is a game we should win so whatever.
