He should probably come in and work for free kind of like an internship. the knowledge and expierence would be way more valuable to him. At the end of camp if he has improved or shown promise they could sign him if not he could go his own way. How about that idea?

Who says you develop him for our system? Brees is here for a while hopefully, he'd be a flip job, not the heir apparent.
This is one of the stupidest things ive ever read on here. Payton and Brees have had incredible success with the current system. Coaches try desperately to get to guys to fit their mold. So, we would take in a failing backup, and taylor an entire system to his strengths. (which are few by the way). No, you find someone you can mold into the next Brees, or closest thing to it. With how incredible lazy and uncaring this dude is, I cant believe anyone who wasnt desperate would consider him.

I would say no way. JR is a locker room cancer, in Oakland he was sleeping in his locker while the team was practicing.

That must be why Payton paid off that mascot to take out Adrian McPhereson. I always wondered why he didn't just cut him though.
You get your backup QB to fit your mold. The Saints 3rd QB is normally Lance Moore. They don't carry a 3rd QB on the roster unless they absolutely have to. The risk with Russell is if he does turn it around and word gets out, you have to carry him on the roster until you can trade him. A guy like Chase Daniel or the draft pick can be developed without much risk of being plucked off the PS.

Hell no. Should our worst nightmare happen... Drew Brees goes down, would you want to see JR trot out onto the field. Thats a nauseating thought

Here are some names: Brees, Manning, Favre, Schaub, Roethlisberger, Warner, Brady, Rivers, Rodgers.
What do they all have in common besides being the NFL's elite QB's (with 10 Super Bowls amongst them)? They completed 65% of their passes or better
no this guys have stable offensive coordinators and havent had a different one every year they have been in the league.

I just really want him to succeed somewhere. someone will pick him up. he has so much potential
As we all know, QBs with "potential" don't win games; that's why the tag "potential".
I personally think Russell will never be a starter again...end of story. He doesn't have the football intelligence to handle the position.
Ryan Leaf had a great arm; he had no football intelligence.
Years ago, there was a QB out of Miami (George Mira) who, at the time, had the strongest arm to ever play in the NFL. What he could do with a football was legendary. He couldn't hit a wide open WR if his life depended upon it; he constantly overthrew WRs trying to prove just how far he throw the ball. He roamed the league like a nomad.
I'd be shocked if Payton tries to take on this project...he could spend his time and talent developing someone who really gives a damn.

i'd feel much more comfortable with him as a 2nd string than anyone else on the team that's for sure...would love to pick him up for a small contract

Good thing we don't have to then....ugh.

Ridiculous suggestion..for reasons listed already. I can only think of one reason why anyone would even suggest that this problem ever be allowed anywhere near the Super Bowl Saints.

Payton has already said that the Saints aren't intereted in Russell. Somebody will pick him up on the cheap, but it won't be in New Orleans.
