im not really opposed to it...with a small contract i wouldnt mind having him as a backup.

I just really want him to succeed somewhere. someone will pick him up. he has so much potential

First off I don't think that Russell would be a very good tight end, and secondly Owen Daniels plays for the Texans.

Just like we wasted time with Palko, Harrington, and even Daniels (who obviously isn't the 3rd string backup answer as evidenced by a QB being drafted), we would be wasting time with J-Roc.

I loved him at LSU. He has tremendous measurables, and is a smart kid. That game in the Sugar Bowl against Brady Quinn & Notre Dame is one of my favorite all-time LSU blowouts.

But he is super lazy/horrible work ethic, has shown no leadership in Oakland, and most importantly for Saints fans, JR is too inaccurate for our QB-driven rhythmic offense.

Here are some names: Brees, Manning, Favre, Schaub, Roethlisberger, Warner, Brady, Rivers, Rodgers.

What do they all have in common besides being the NFL's elite QB's (with 10 Super Bowls amongst them)? They completed 65% of their passes or better.

Who came in last this year? J-Roc with an hideous 48% comp percentage, while tossing only 3 TD's and 11 INT's, with 9 fumbles. Ouch.

Even camp body Greg Paulus could accomplish that, but nobody's banging his drum other than Doug Marrone.

If the Saints decide to bring in JR how could you question them?

I wouldn't mind signing him just to piss off the anti-LSU Saints fans, but IMO JR is done. You can't motivate the unmotivated.

What he said.

Bringing him in will create a distraction this team does not need. Do agree we have to address back up QB but need someone who will compare to Brees in dedication if not talent.

There's no risk in brining him in. Take a look and cut him if he doesn't do what you ask. It's not like he's TO or something. A top pick for garage sale price, why not kick the tires?

Who says you develop him for our system? Brees is here for a while hopefully, he'd be a flip job, not the heir apparent.

The talent's there, if Payton can help him get his head on right it's an investment that could easily turn into a 5th rounder. I certainly wouldn't question it if Payton decided to take on this reclamation project.
