Sure sounds that way. #Draft Bust

Sounds like Bush & Lewis double teamed Manning as he was running down as a gunner on punt coverage. They must have roughed him up a bit.

I'm so happy Coleman is coming alive.

A receiver like that is hard to come by.
And a UDFA, too.

Agreed. He looks to be Brees' new weapon down the seams but it also sounds like he has greatly improved running the intermediate routes as well.

Anybody, who is saying Coleman isn't a lock to make the roster is kidding themselves. They need to pay close to attention to how many back shoulder throws Coleman has been getting so far in camp from Brees.

One, it takes a strong chemistry between receiver & QB for those back shoulder throws to be successful. The timing has to be right as well as a level of trust by both players.

Secondly, teams throw back shoulder passes to receivers they have the utmost confidence in. You are not going to throw back shoulder passes to receivers who is struggling to run their routes properly, who lacks the necessary chemistry with the QB or has an issue with drops.

People also need to pay attention to how often Coleman is being targeted in the redzone drills. It's a sign that Payton has plans for him to be targeted a great deal in those situations.

Agree 100%. Coleman is 1 of the 53, and I have heard a ton on him catching those quick back shoulder throws in camp. I am happy about our WR skill position. I still like Willie Snead and Seantavious Jones. For me the verdict is still out on Nick Toon. I have noticed he is good or average at every WR skill but he doesn't have a WR skill set that is excellent. Like leaping ability/speed/quickness/hands. Everything seems to be just average. And I don't believe he plays on Special Teams. Willie Snead has been looking really good and even Prater I hear is looking good. Prater is 6'6" big like Colston I believe. We will be fine with Brees spreading the ball around to these guys.

The key though is balance with the run game & keeping a clean pocket for Drew which everyone seems to be worried about right now with good reason.

Under Payton, our offense has been the most successful when the ground game is solid because not only does it take pressure off of Brees but it makes play action lethal. You know when the offense is clicking at it's highest when they go 2 TE, FB, HB with a 1 WR deep route & Brees burns a defense with a deep ball because the defense sells out to stop the run.

I'm with you in that I'm not overly concerned about WR unlike some others are. We have guys we are capable of producing. Plus who were guys like Marques Colston, Lance Moore, Billy Miller & Jimmy Graham before hooking up with Payton & Brees? It can work with the guys we have at receiver now but damn, protecting Drew & creating a consistent ground attack has to be a top priority otherwise Drew is going to press a lot. Bad things tend to happen when Drew presses.

I realize we need to be successful with having a nice yards per carry average from Ingram, Robinson, Spiller, and Hightower.

I feel that CSP knows protection has been an issue. I believe with Spiller/Cooks/and even Ingram we will utilize screens, bubbles, short passes, and wheel routes coming out the back field. These screens and quick set plays with Cooks/Spiller will help set up the run game and also keep Drew upright.
All about timing/pace/tempo. After watching the way Max Unger plays and how successful he is at getting to the 2nd & 3rd level so fast really transforms our offense. Just watch that screen to Cooks that went for a TD vs Ravens. Unger was the main reason that play worked so well.
I think the Saints will run plenty of SCREENS this season and I think that will help our run game and the occasional long ball.
I still think we will be able to run the ball well. All of us here are nervous because we don't want to see Drew pressured so damn often this season, and I believe with these quick screens and type of play calls will assist in less pressures & sacks.
I am optimistic

I think Toon has run his course here. Too much potential talent to keep him around another year

He wasn't that good in 2013 either, though he was injured that year too (that's when his back problems started).

He may not have been his Hall of Fame self, but he was still pretty damn good in 2013.

He allowed 2 sacks in the first 4 games, then didn't allow another one the rest of the regular season. 12 straight games without a sack

I'm not a fan. Personally, I think it would be a travesty if Snead does not make the 53.

Yep.

Looks like 2 good players at positions we had a need.
So far so good.

Snead would be a lock if Cooks wasn't on the roster. I agree on the Anthony/Unger deal.

jimmy was not the same player since he got smoked at the end of the 2013 season going into the playoffs. (think it was TB or Carolina) he already was scared of the big hit and became king of the alligator arm after that. They sold high on him and will be better for it.

Lol. Won't happen. Payton needs to save that dude the embarrassment of the season. A sneaky suspicion in me thinks Brees has something to do with this.
