Tom Condon and Drew Brees v's Micky Loomis

I think I've been very publicly "pro Saints" in their negotiation with Drew Brees and Tom Condon, but I've never really articulated why to the extent that I'd like.
Basically, Tom Condon is a hard nosed a-hole who puts the dollar first, is loyal to only the top dog (even if it's to the detriment of his OWN clients... ask Alex Smith how he feels about his agent pushing Peyton to the 49ers).
Tom Condon was the architect of the hard nosed and over-the-top contracts that Peyton Manning signed with the Colts - you know... the ones that left virtually no cap room to pay things like "linebackers" and "cornerbacks" and "running backs"? He would happily do the same exact thing to the Saints and raise the contract levels of top tier NFL QB's across the league (after all, he has more than a handful of them as his clients), etc.
Loomis knows he has virtually all the leverage. He knows how Condon operates. He knows he doesn't have to say jack shite to Brees / Condon other than "here's our final offer... or here's the franchise tender. Take your pic. And if you pick the franchise tender we'll see you back in this office in 9 months."
Bottom line - Brees and Condon do not have anything but their own personal interests at stake here. Loomis isn't just trying to "win" the negotiation for the hell of it - the very future of the Saints and how they fit with the salary cap for the next 5 years are dependent on this deal. This is arguably the most important player negotiation in the history of the Saints.
Benson has proven time and again he is fair, proactive, and anything but cheap with his players who perform. We have the track records of Tom Benson and the Saints and we have the track record of Tom Condon. I know whose side I'm on. How about you?

gif's in response to cogent arguments are lazy, not clever, and generally are annoying as frick. And on top of that, your GIF makes no contextual sense to what I posted.
"Deal with it"? What the hell does that mean? Deal with Tom Condon being a greedy a-hole who has no concept or concern with the bigger picture of the Saints and their cap concerns?
Thanks... I guess.

Well put and couldn't agree more! Also I might add the Albert Pujoles negotiations in St Louis was very similar and we see how that turned out.

I just don't want Brees to have our team handcuffed for the next five years. I know this is his last chance to get paid and we should pay him. But he needs to think about the other fringe guys who also deserve to be on this team that may be cap casualties once he is signed. I know his entire salary wont go against the cap but if he is looking at 23 mil if it would thats 20% of our cap space for one player. I dont care if he gets it but he should. I know he outplayed his last contract but thats a contract that he agreed to. I dont know just pay the man i guess. I am waffling. He gets signed for that much I wont give a shite so I guess it doesn't matter but Drew cant do it alone. We still have to field a complete decent team behind him.

Personally, I love the .gif response approach. It's why I keep coming back to TD over and over again. Whodatfan, I say well done to you sir.

and now for something completely irrelevant

Dude I can go literally a MILLION places for dry analysis of free agent NFL deals. But if I want my information served up with a side order of internet meme, this is my first stop on the web 6 days a week and twice on Sunday.

I agree 100%
I've always thought if Mickey and Drew got the agent out of the room and talked that they could get it done in an hour. 20M/yr for 5 yrs with an option for a sixth. 50M Signing bonus.

What should they have ahead of their own personal interests?

Jesus - tom Brady has signed 2 contracts while being considered the best QB in the league and both times he signed relatively modest deals that were cap friendly.
Peyton on the other hand absolutely raped the colts to the detriment of the team.
