Fair enough. But you still posted incorrect math the first time.

I gave "about 25%" as much leeway as you guys are giving "elite"

25% is top 8 coaches, that is a lot.

What is elite to you, you never answered that.

If elite QBs are 5, I would put elite coaches the same since most coaches are tied to their QBs (Brady-Belichick, Payton-Brees, and McCarthy-Rodgers).

I don't know exactly but I know it's south of nearly 20%. The only coach I would currently call elite is Belichick.

You still haven't said where you place Sean Payton. What is his ranking?

Like draft more cornerbacks...oh wait.

Honestly, we shouldn't draft any corners IMO. We're terrible at it. Go FA for the #2.

Cut Jahri and Grubbs, and use that money on the defense. Draft guards. It is the easiest position to learn in the NFL

Too much math. And yes this thread did go on too long.

But he does have a point, SP is done and you won't see the saints win a playoff game in the next 3 years. It was kind of cute when they could not win on the road. Now they just can't win

Well then if he isn't elite, he's in the group on the fence of elite/above average.

Harbaughs
Carroll
McCarthy
Payton

And you want to give that up for who? Andy Reid? Rex Ryan? Mike Smith? Riverboat Ron? Lovie? Marvin Lewis who is 0-5 in the playoffs in 11 years?

Go for a college coach? Because Chip Kelly was the only successful one in the past few years. We could end up with another Schiano.

Yep. Look at the corners weve signed in FA in the Loomis/Payton era vs the ones weve drafted. It isnt even close.
Bottom line is, they need to address OL, DT, LBs in the draft and go sign 2-3 FA CBs.

I don't know exactly where I would rank him, probably somewhere in the top 10, 6-8 maybe based on his entire body of work, but this is the 2nd time in 8 years coaching that he has followed up a strong year with an abortion of a year

So you want to fire what you consider to be a top 10 NFL coach?

Seriously?

Like I said, he is trending down and I don't want to get to the bottom before we right the ship

No, you just want to completely overreact and throw the boat into reverse instead of steering around the iceberg

Trending down is what Mike Smith is doing right now.

Being on a rollercoaster is normal in the NFL, it is a league where a high performing team can go to gutter and vise versa in 1 year (Carolina, Us, Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, etc.)

McCarthy has been good as of late, but it isn't like anyone in that division does much lately. The same years that we went 11-5, atlanta was 13-3 and was 1st. Last year we went 11-5, Carolina was 12-4. Since McCarthy's 2010 season, only 1 other team has gone >=11 wins and that was the division leader 11-5 Chicago Bears in 2010.

Pete and Jim duke it out every year and they're both tied for 2nd right now to Arizona

John has only won the divison twice since 2008 and went 8-8 last year (3rd division).

Even those above average coaches have up and down years. we're in a down year.

Who do you expect them to hire? Sean Payton is the best person to coach this team. It may be time to get someone else to evaluate talent for him.

Last year is looking pretty bad. The 2013 draft was absolutely solid.

1st - Kenny Vaccaro --> was great last year and showed that he has the skill. Not sure why he forgot how to tackle this year, but just 3 MTs last year

3rd - Armstead --> 1st round talent. One of the most athletic tackles in the league. Trending towards All-Pro level of play

3rd - Jenkins --> Has looked like a steal at times and terrible at times. When we can rotate him, he's solid

5th - Stills --> Absolute steal. Already exceeded expectations. Lets see if he makes the 3rd year jump in play that we see in the NFL from a lot of WRs

We shouldn't draft defense in the 1st 3 rounds IMO. Hell, maybe we shouldn't draft defense at all and just use our FA money for it

Jenkins is still dealing with a pec injury and he's probably out of shape. He's not even close to 100%, so he can't create a push or hold his ground at all it seems.
